I want to date an older guy (in his 40s) im 23. Why is my friend calling them predators for showing interest?

Could be jealousy? Though some people have very fixed ideas on age gaps. I think its partly people who didn't get the guy or girl they wanted in their age group because they where wooed by older men or women and feel sour. They would rather shout down that type of thing that just accept maybe it was what was best for the person they liked.

That said, I feel the acceptable age gap increased with age to a degree. When 16, up to 4 or 5 years (upward) difference is a good guideline, once a person is in their mid-twenties though it is more like 10 to 20 years difference (again upward) and when a person is in their 30's, then its like up to 5 years down and up to 20 years up.

That said, it can be very difficult to sustain a meaningful relationship with someone significantly immature. So its all based on maturity really.

In brief: they assume you're being manipulated, because you (either as a young person, or as a woman, or both) are unable to make up your own mind and choose to date someone appreciably older.

In detail: said older guys aren't following the usual social script, and this angers your friend. The cognitive dissonance on this type of thing is phenomenally strong; I wouldn't suggest bringing it up unless you're prepared for a helluva fight.

Because it's very predator like for a man that old to have interest in someone that could literally be the same age as his own child

@KrakenAttackin they can't lol at 23 women still have the brain of a child. 25 gets slightly better but not really till 32 the brain is fully capable of making good decisions. I'm not even fully there yet

Cause it's pretty creepy when older people prey on younger people, careful you don't get taken advantage of is what I think you friends meant to say

A guy twice your age has twice your experience. A 23 female is super easy to manipulate.
