Why was he reluctant to admit his feelings?

Anonymous

I saw a coworker on a night out. We were both a little drunk, he was blowing me kisses and flirting.

We went outside and I admitted that I had a crush on him. I asked him if he felt the same way and he kept saying “you’re a lovely person”. I asked him to just answer the question and he said “yes I do but we can’t be together” (because of work). When he admitted he felt the same way, he almost shouted it and sounded annoyed, almost like he didn’t want to admit it. We then kissed a few times.

After that, at work, he said he didn’t remember what happened but wasn’t overly happy with us kissing. He was then hot and cold towards me.

He is now back to flirting with me all the time.

According to a colleague, when I went on holiday, she asked him if he misses me and he said “it’s quiet”

We were joking around the other day and i said “you clearly hate me” to which he said “immensely”

And then yesterday I said to him again, “you really hate me don’t you?” And he said no but with a smile on his face.

If he does like me, why was he so reluctant to admit it and then seem annoyed when he did admit it?
