So my boss spoke to me in a hard voice last week an completely avoided eye contact at a meeting but looked at everyone else but we had one on one today where he praised me a lot and he inisiatet small talk convos througout the day so what is happening?

Possibly he feels threatened by your presence. Could be you might be considered for a promotion or that you are doing a great job and know more about your job than he does. Unfortunately, supervisors don’t need to know much about what they supervise over!

Nothing was happening, he's your boss. It's possible that you are not his number one priority every single day. His universe doesn't revolve around you.
He probably just has something going on in his personal life. He might have even just have been in a certain mood.
I wouldn't worry about it too much, unless you start to notice a strong pattern.

Maybe he was stressed and taking it out on u and now feels guilty
