Does my boyfriend lack an interest in life?

I have been dating my boyfriend for 7 months now... His parents passed away when he was young... He works in an okay job looking to change job as i insisited that he needs to get a higher paying job... he keeps insisting that he is doing this for me... if it wasn't for me he says he wouldn't bother about money or job and would just spend his life with no purpose. This kind of puts me off. I wanted my partner not rich but someone with a drive to do somwthing with life... when he keeps saying he doesn't need the money i feel like am forcing someone to come up to my level... and i dont feel this as healthy... also he somkes and drinks and i have been asking him to stop that for a while too... it feels like am forcing him to be disciplined or good but not by his own interest to do better in life. ... i donteven know what i am doing... is this how guys are? by the way we are 28 not teenagers

Nah girl you deserve better, it looks like you are his mom taking care of him & trying to make him better. As someone who had an ex like that, I will recommend you to break up. My ex was just like that & I spend most of my money helping him & it was not worth it. He should be able to want something good in his life for himself not you! And by leaving him, trust me he will get a reality check
