What does being an “independent woman” look like to you?

It’s interesting to me how some people have this idea that “independent women” are single and slutty.

When I think of a woman who’s independent, I think of one who’s got her shit together, can be single OR in a relationship OR even married, has a career, her own income, vehicle, enjoys her own hobbies, interests, and social life. Basically just a grown woman who doesn’t need to constantly have her head wedged up her boyfriend or husband’s ass.

The opposite would be a dependent: some else is facilitating and paying for your existence and you lack individualism.

I’d consider myself independent, even though I’m married. My husband and I have our shared time and experiences and we also have our separate time and experiences. Apparently this is a foreign concept to some people.

I think your definition is a good one.

A woman that has her sh*t together. An adult who can handle life on her own. A woman who isn’t dependent on anyone and will only be interdependent (mutually lean on the help of others) if she chooses to do so. She’s mature and responsible and could live the rest of her life on her own if she chose to.

She’s assertive. She’s confident. She doesn’t need male validation or external validation in general. She knows herself and draws her sense of self-worth from within.

In contrast, being single and overly promiscuous just comes off as reckless and attention-seeking. Impulsive, thoughtless, purposeless, pleasure-seeking — just a couple steps away from their life spiraling out of control. Like chasing a drug addiction and drowning your problems with hedonistic vices.

A woman that has her sh*t together can feel proud of the life that she’s living every day — and upon her deathbed, she can feel proud of the life that she’s lived.

It’s not about reckless living. It’s not about misandry either. It’s about living a respectable life with competence and dignity.

A normal functional adult. That's all.

The idea of simple and slutty comes from those videos that portrays the women who have red flags, going "I'm independent and need no man" expecting to get the queen treatment while not putting much on the table themselves.

Because those kind of women are put in the spotlight, some guys will freak out when they hear Strong and Independent. The meaning is lost when used by that type of women.

I still just see being independent and strong as somebody who's just a normal functioning adult. A decent human being.

It's a woman who doesn't need a man to get off in bed, but enjoys his meat when it's available. She likes to explore every inch of her body, like a monkey in the jungle, and she isn't afraid to get messy with someone who's worthy.

Independent women have their own careers and dreams, but they're not afraid to get down on their knees to please a man or woman who deserves it. They don't need anyone to support them, but they sure do love feeling something big and strong inside them.

So when someone like Jedediah Bila says that independent women are just sluts, tell her to stick it where the sun don't shine. Being independent means doing what you want, when you want, with whoever you want. And if that includes a little bit of nasty fun, well then who's gonna stop you? Boom boom long time, baby! ﾠ

Honestly it just sounds like a single woman who is an adult. The great thing about being a married woman is that your not independent anymore, I belong to my husband and he to me in a loving union.

Being an independent woman is the same as being an independent man. It just means an adult female who can take care of herself. I think the kids call it adulting these days.

The reason this is even on anyone's radar is that some women feel the need to boast about being an "independent woman", as if it is someting to be super proud of. It feels like a child boasting about being able to tie their shoes. It's kind of cute when a child does it, but when an adult does it, it's not exactly impressive or endearing. It's just the bare minimum for being a normal person.

very few people are actually resourceful and able to provide for themselves, and they usually live by the woods and in the woods
