I met a guy online. We were chatting like friends. Then we started following each other on Instagram and I saw that he had a girlfriend. I said to him this. He told me "Yes , I have a girlfriend. But I talk to you like a friend. It's normal. My girlfriend knows this". However I blocked him. I didn't rely on him. Was I right?

Yes you were right because there is no way whatsoever to know whether this guy told you the truth about his girlfriend being aware of him chatting with you.

He could have tried to get your attention for something more than just friendship if you would have allowed it. It is always best to cut those kind of conversations short in order to avoid any future issues with him or his girlfriend.

You don't want to be seen as a homewrecker. He could have told you that he is with his girlfriend but that the relationship is on the brink.

Ohh totally right. Maybe his girlfriend didn't really know i was talking to him. I asked him about it over and over but he told me "no worries, girls and guys can be friends" etc. And then I noticed he started to text me frequently. I eventually didn't rely on him and blocked him.

Depends on what you wanted. I started corresponding with a younger woman on insta after I commented on her writing. We're friends. Sometimes it's liberating to talk to someone outside your social circle.
