What does it mean when my guy best friend cuddles me, naps on me, and wants to stargaze with me?

my guy best friend and I have been friends for 5 years with no disconnections ever and this year we have been becoming closer, but he keeps or kept making it clear that we are friends so i don't know if he likes me like that or not.

I have liked him for a while and now we cuddle with each other, we nap on each other while cuddling, he always makes time for me and tends to put me first, and he constantly takes me out and pays for my food, when need be, even opens the car door for me.

With him telling me were just friends though I am a little confused.

I'm not saying I know for sure about you and your best friend.

In my own experience, (and some observation of others) often one person will reiterate "we're just friends" in situations just like yours; for one of two reasons.

1. To convince themselves that the romantic feelings they have for you aren't actually happening. They are a little freaked out themselves about the fact that they are developing feelings for you, and are essentially self-soothing out-loud. It's a form of out-loud-denial (And nobody making any accusations)

2. As you and he start to do things that are bringing you closer, where the lines between "friend" and "more" starts to become blurred (e. g. cuddling). He might very well be saying this, to try and re-iterate to you that... whatever intimate activity you may be doing is ok, because "you're just friends"

It lets him get away with being able to cuddle or stargaze with you; without having to take the step he's too nervous or unsure of to take. It's to be able to cuddle.

Or, sometimes (often) it is a combination of 1 and 2

I'm envious of you. You are in a wonderful little twilight period where things are becoming... good.

Enjoy this time, and the intensity of your relationship once you get together. It's still a honeymoon phase when you first get together. It does end. But it's amazing.

No rush though. As long as neither of you comes to think the other one has lost interest... you're in a great place as best friends but... you both know it's more... but nobody has said anything yet. That's such a nice and fun phase. Exciting.

Maybe he's... or not. Maybe he is not physically attracted to you. Maybe he has something going on physically he's embarrassed about?
