Great exercises that I'm already doing at the gym, but I never get how many sets & reps I should do, any advice there? :)

4 sets of 8-12 is a good guideline. Tbh I don't really count reps, I just do a shitload of sets until my muscles are screaming in pain.

      Alright thanks!
Wow, I could never just forget how many reps I've done 😂 I'm the kind of person that needs the exact amount, lol.
Is it better to lift a heavier weight with less sets or to do lighter weight weight with more sets?

Do medium with as many sets as u can do, until u feel it out for what is best. Don't try to workout back to back days, rest and recover and hit it again 48 hours later, good luck!

Those are some good ways to exercise, at gym I do 2 4 5 and they sure do the job.

Most important in my opinion is continuity, I mean, don't stop your routine, have no break days for no reason. :)

Not really. You have to overload your muscles with weight for them to break down and grow. You must lift heavy, lots of girls don't bc they are worried about getting too "muscly" but that's a myth. No one accidentally gets jacked.

Focus in foods with high protein. Thanks for reading and good luck!

I got to agree with @consultantisback here nothing wrong with smith squats look at all the guys with tree trunk legs at the gym, they squat on the smith or they do at my gym. Adds more mass because you can isolate you legs without the need to worry about being stable means more weight, weight equals intensity and more muscle micro tears = growth

Smith machines do not allow for proper form or positioning. Beside you should not be isolating with squats. It is not designed for that.
@whimper87 the balance should be gained first. The Smith machine will not help you with developing balance which means some muscles need balancing out.

@Marstalk It does allow for proper form and positioning.. in fact, that's the reason it was invented!! haha, think about it for a second.

The criticism of Smith Machines lies in the fact that it removes the free stabilization of the weights like free weights. But that doesn't knock out the effectiveness entirely.

@Marstalk Well its definitely debated. Lots of people say it's dangerous, risky, etc. But so are free weights too. I'm just saying I don't agree with discouraging someone away from a Smith Machine if they feel it is safer for them than free weights.

Free weights are dangerous but given that even in squats the bar does not just move vertically. I would encourage old fashion squats.

@Marstalk I won't have joint problems, that's not the problem now, it's the way my right knee turns outwards. I was born that way and so was my dad. I am a certified health coach myself and am not clueless about fitness. You are generalizing a method instead of specifying one. Different workouts work better for different people, no two people are alike.

Okay, well I am saying squats on a Smith machine no matter the feet positioning is worse than free squats, leg press, or lunges. But since your knees are not positioned correct I guess keep doing what you are doing.

Also I have yet to meet anyone who works out and does not get joint issues. It comes with the territory. Unless you are on who does not lift much.

@ConsultantslsBack Nope, I agree not every specialized work out works for everybody. What I have an issue with is what equipment they are using for certain movements. Smith machines are great if you are going for a hack squat style since you can get the proper angle, but for standard squats it seems to be a toss up.

You have to go heavy. If u can do 150 reps you are doing basically no weight. Crush your muscles, rest and go at it another day, don't try to lift consecutive days, you break down your muscles when u work out and u need to give your body rest and good nutrition to recover and grow. Good luck!

You have to be using enough weight to hit failure within a certain rep range, usually 8-12 reps. If you can do more than that without having to rest for a little bit the weight is too light and you won't see the results you want.

He's just giving some good advice to those interested in gaining some size in the glutes, and you're hating on him for it. May not be a feminist but that's definetly feminist like behaviour. Also, yes these do work for everyone. Yes there are circumstances where your body is so fucked that you have to work on other things before these but if you want to generalize, then again, yes they work on everyone.

@mytaker just because a female doesn't agree with you, doesn't mean you go get all sensitive and call her a "feminist". I can tell you're one of those who mindlessly throw that term around. That's child's play and proves that you haven't fully developed mentally as a man yet. You and the little follow up boys agreeing with you.

@LittleSally Kudos for saying it how it is. Feminism has nothing to do with it. Not everyone wants to play this game of "who can get the biggest bum"!

I'll have to do that on my own since the Body Pump class doesn't allow for that. Oh, on the lunges, have you tried "raised lunges"? It's where you get on a "bench" (those "step class" "benches") with your front foot / leg and raise and lower your knee to the height of the bench.

"It hurts soo good" (ok, that sounded wrong)

As idiotic as the writer himself is, this MyTake is very much on point. I've been dieting right, drinking Vanilla Whey Protein, jogging and booty squatting with results in my butt after 1 week. I naturally have the body potential for a nicely shaped butt, but being a college student who studies a lot can cause a person to forget to take care of their bodies as well as their minds. Great MyTake, but work on how u throw shit at those who can't agree with u.
