I really don't get what the big deal is. Like I really don't. Why are we even still talking about this? If SI wants to put a 500-pound chick on the cover, let them. Why is a magazine cover affecting people so much?
But the double standard you mentioned in the first part of your article... it more than likely has to do with body proportion. Studies have shown that men are vastly attracted to perfect hourglass frames, regardless of weight. An overweight girl might be seen as attractive because her weight is centered in her boobs & ass, & she has a flat tummy. If you're the same height & weight but you have a huge belly, that's a different story.
Im sorry you developed an eating disorder. The woman i love has one to. She battles it all the time. The main thing is try to stay at a good weight but do it in a healthy way one that doesn't involve dangerous methods. My heart goes out to you for what you're going through just hang in there and take one day at a time. Thats what i tell my girl.
Ashley Graham is close to being obese or is slightly obese last time I checked her BMI from what I remember. I do consider her attractive whether it's her body, height, or facial structure, but I wouldn't lie about her being fat. She is fat and she has a higher probability to have health issues than the average person due to her weight and a lot of it not being muscle. I'm against the movement she's promoting. I think it's good to promote to love your body as long as it's promoting good health as well. I think what should be promoted is "healthy = attractiveness" not "attractiveness = healthy."
this is what brainwashing does. it aligns you with things you do not believe in and makes you support them for various reasons: pressure, deceit, so on. And this is what your "project" revealed.
this right here should get on the papers for everyone to read, because it makes me laugh at how exposing it is for the poisonous place society reached with OUR help.
Are there people that commented on both of the articles, but with different opinion? That would be even more enjoyable for me.
*It's not something to be ashamed of if you are overweight, but it's not something to raise on a pedestal just to make yourself feel better. In the end your health will still bring you down, due to the problems caused by being overweight. Also, this whole "standard shift" of accepting overweight people as beauty standards and putting them on "SPORTS illustrated" (sports for goodness me), will only hurt whole society on the long run. What sport is this girl doing?
All I can say is the picture you used in that first post and the picture in the second looks completely different and I don't know who she is and don't know her appearance.
She looks way better on The Sports Illistrated cover in the bikini than she does in the other one (which I did not take part in answering). Actually the first one you have of her in her bra and underwear isn't that bad like I said sure she's overweight but she's far from being obese... However I will admit she certainly doesn't look her best and can stand to lose some pounds in that picture of her without her face.
For everyone discussing the different use of photos, the SI photo is altered to make her more flattering, the second is her actual figure. Secondly, posting an altered photo would obviously make my second anonymous post look fake.
So with that being said I don't really see the point in your whole experiment if you were aware of this why not just tell us this from the very beginning instead of showing the people her in two different positions?
I understand the concept completely what I don't understand is the fact that you clearly have no life. My question is why did you go through all this effort and ask multiple questions one with her body altered/more attractive and the other that's her true figure/less attractive what was the point of going through all that trouble them just to make a mytake?
When you could've simply made a mytake without having any of our opinions and informed us that that's not her true figure, how you think she's over weight, how that picture is photoshopped. I think a better question is how hard is it to understand that you waisted your time on something that no one frankly gives a crap about. I mean sure you're receiving replies bum do you honestly think that this is going to make a difference in anyway? If you do you're sadly mistaken.
And what made it so hard for you to comprehend that when I mentioned @Red_Arrow it means that I stand by what he has to say... Which I've noticed you've failed to reply/comment to his opinion 😏
Yeah actually your motive does matter and if you explained it/included it up there you'd probably get more respect or admiration out of us. When everyone else rights a mytake they explain why they're writing it/cause. And you not telling us is only hurting yourself because it makes it only seem like what the people are saying is true that you're only insecure about yourself or you're just jealous and etc. amd you e still failed to even reply to those opinions or stand up to yourself while you continual reply to me and for what?
And I do care well to a certain degree I was interested in the fact that you made a made a mytake on this as well as the fact that you asked two previous questions which I took part in one so I wanted to state where I stood or comment on something that I may have missed. But what I mean is this mytake is not keeping any of us awake at night. There are pleanty of other mytakes on this site that have actual meaning that we should focus on way before we begin...
To give even the slightest about this and that woman's life style when she's not even OBESE!
If you really care about people's health and how were being influenced instead of focusing on one person how about you actually write a take on obesity. People's health how were effected negatively. Bad life styles restaurants excercisimg etc. -_-
I think it's obvious that I care because it's making a society of fat people. Only an utter retard wouldn't understand that. And please calm down with your rants, one at a time is enough.
Yes clearly I know but you're achieving nothing by putting this ow, en down or whatever you want to call it. If you really care about people being obese and fat you would being writing a take and informing people how to improve and warning them about their health etc.
And I'll stop ranting as soon as you do. This Whole MyTake about this woman was a rant. You don't truly care because if you did you would try to assist them and make a difference you're simply putting them down.
as long as she is healthy and feels good who the f cares if she's overweight or obese? skinny people have all kinds of health problems too. it's possible she is super healthy, her blood pressure, cholesterol levels are on check so if she technically has crossed the bmi scale to not healthy does not mean she actually has health problems. she promotes eating healthy, exercising and taking care of yourself, she just does not want people to obsess over being skinny and enjoys her curvy body. she thinks people of all sizes should be accepted as long as they are healthy. bmi is not an accurate measure for health or beauty
I really do shy away from coming down too hard one way or the other on body shape questions or issues - I stick to the "What is healthy?" argument - Looking at the two pics of Ashley Graham, I would say she is not too bad but right on the edge of moving into unhealthy overweight territory. Is it good to talk about being a 200 lb woman as a positive examples to young girls probably not unless an athlete or well trained. I think my point is yes there are women who are probably healthy/look good at that weight but if you are around that and want to remain so, check with a doctor /dietician to make sure it is healthy. That said anyone of any weight or diet can be unhealthy and it never does no harm to check with medical professional about your lifestyle. While not a body Nazi, I think we should look after ourselves as best we can, we all want to live a long and healthy life.

*Slow Clap*... experimenting with GaG'ers, a? The problem with this experiment is you're comparing actual health to attractiveness. The two are not mutually exclusive. Someone may very well think something is attractive regardless if that person is considered unhealthy or not because individuals have preferences and things they like which is why in this world it's not just skinny or healthy or fit people who are in relationships or married. I understand your point about needing to be in good health, and I fully support that, we, in America, have a huge problem with obesity---but people were obese before the SI mag and they are obese now, and some will be obese tomorrow. The same could be said for the opposition. Before skinny models graced covers, there was anorexia then, now, and will be tomorrow. One cannot 'blame' a magazine cover for an obesity problem which was already existed anymore than one can blame a violent movie for someone picking up a gun and shooting someone.
People need to realize that not everyone is going to have a flat stomach, a huge ass, and big tits. Ashley Graham is beautiful. Who cares that she doesn't have a size 24 waist. Does any girl really have one? Maybe supermodels do? Ashley represents most of the women in America and the world. She shows that it's okay not to have an hour glass figure or a perfectly flat stomach.
To the people that are hating on her; I don't see you or your girlfriends being chosen to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated. So that should kind of tell you something. She is more attractive than most females. Just accept it and move on with your life. She honestly doesn't care what any of us think (most likely). She's on the cover of a top magazine and has made a ton of money.
Not every woman in the world has the same build, bone structure, muscle mass, thyroid function or metabolism. So, despite what the media woyld lead you to believe, NOT everyone can be skinny. Or thin. Why can't people just accept that there are beautiful people of every size? Stick figures and slender athletes are blessed to have their form, but they are not the only ones who belong on magazine covers. And guess what? Plenty of men out there are attracted to voluptuous women. It's okay to cater to them once in a while. Variety is the spice of life!
exactly and besides I think this asker is jealous of Ashley she hot and chubby. What person makes posts about someone they never met about their weight?
Different men like different body types. It's not fair for you to say "men as well, because now they feel they have to lie and tell overweight girls they're beautiful when they really don't find them attractive." I agree that the cover of a sports magazine should feature a badass female athlete, but that's not how "swimsuit edition" works. We are continually objectified. It doesn't matter what size a woman is, she will still be objectified.
It's the truth. I've been guilty of it in the past where I've said they look attractive when I don't really think so because it's what I'm supposed to say. Only an asshole would say otherwise right? No guy I know would prefer her to those other more slim, fitter women. Men aren't as fake about it when women aren't around to hear, trust me.
Well men lie to overweight girls often lol. They settle down with them. Why do you think many married men especailly get prostitutes? Or trade in their older wives for a younger model...
Totally agree!!! Ashley Grahm is fat. She is pretty but this is a title a position of honor and you have to earn it. Put effort into maintaining yourself. It is sports illustrated so play sports eat meat snd fruits and leafy greens but the bags of chips go to her hips and send a message that you can get that title without commitment. The athletes may eat chips but they burn the calories. And thry send a message to be active and fuel their bidy as a machine. And be disciplined
I mean, is anyone actually afraid to say it? Most guys I know just look at her and say, "She looks good here", "she looks thicc here" "... that one's tough", "yea, she's just fat there" and shit like that lol. Like no one acts as if she's small or healthy bodyfat. It's all tinted in terms of how attractive she looks. There's a thing that I tend to agree with. If someone is fat, but still looks good it's because they don't have a fat face. It's other places on their body. If they're fat and don't look good, it's because they have a fat face.
She can be a plus-sized model because even tho she is overweight she just doesn't have a fat face.
She's still sexy. Is she a little heavier? Yes. But, that doesn't mean she's extremely unhealthy. Let the woman keep that between her and her doctor. You put way too much time into this whole thing. Half of SI covers, or the ones that get attention are just skinny retouched models in the first place. People also seem to forget they put Rousey on another cover at the same time, but no one is talking about that. Also, your "experiment" is biased. 1st photo is flattering and the 2nd photo isn't. I don't think she'll have a bad impact on young girls. It's just representing more body types.
Honestly, yes she is a bit overweight (although I don't think its as much as people try to claim (I think its more of a push back at the whole fat acceptance thing rather then her look in particular), however I also think she is not bad looking so I don't see it as a big deal except for the fact that she is on the cover of a sports magazine yet is not athletic (that is the real issue in my opinion, its like having a science magazine feature an athlete that has no back ground nor interest in science, that just doesn't make sense). So I don't think a person should lie about what they find attractive,, if a guy doesn't think she is attractive then he shouldn't say she is attractive (plenty of guys would find her attractive (I don't mind a little bit of extra "meat" so to speak, but I also know other guys who would not find her attractive at all (I think men have a greater variety of what they find attractive then women give them credit for to be honest).
It's obviously not healthy and I don't find it attractive at all. Why do people in good shape or at least normal shape get no love? Seems like you either have to be anorexic or obese and I don't think that's very fair. I'm sure some skinny people work really hard to stay that way but why not give credit to people doing it in a healthy way? I find toned/fit women to be the most attractive and think they need more attention.
I think she is hot and sexy! Not necessarily in the pics you included but of others I've seen online amidst the controversy. I would also say she is overweight. Being attractive and overweight don't have to be mutually exclusive, do they? Men find attractive what they find attractive. Hence, she will appeal to some and not others. I would warn against using BMI as a yardstick though as BMI can be misleading. BMI looks at overall weight versus height. A better measurement of healthy & vitality would be her lean body mass. I think she would look prettier and more attractive if she lost weight, but she still looks good now. More power to her for owning her body and rocking her self-confidence. Confidence is sexy. Also why is this so controversial? I mean, yeah, it is the cover of SI but Elle Quebec featured her in a bikini long before SI. Just saying. Great job here :)
someone doesn't need to be a size 3 bakini to be sexy. she just looks different than the other stick figures on the magazine and that scares people. also she resembles a realistic human body so people snare because their used to seeing supermodels. so yes you could argue that she isn't the resemblance of women who dedicate their life's to their figure but she is still sexy. also she's 1000X more sexy than Ronda Rousey, why isn't anybody complaining that Ronda Rousey is on there. plus its obvious that they put her on the cover for controversy and to sell magazines not to push an agenda.
I think she is drop dead gorgeous, and in no way "obese." Yeah she's got some extra meat on her bones, but she's the way women are supposed to look. Not like those anorexic models that are nothing more than an ass with two poles for legs.
And guys, cut the crap with the body shaming. If you're going to criticize a woman's body, you better be damn sure you look like Johnny Depp.
"... but she's the way women are supposed to look"
There's no definitive way women should look. Women come in all shapes and sizes and to say women should conform to one body type is contradictory to your body shaming critique.
Regardless, I find that women body shame women much more than men do. Overweight women just love bashing on skinny women, calling them sticks, and that they should eat a cheeseburger. Skinny women also call other women fat for having any bit of curvature to their bodies. It's a damn shame the media has caused so much insecurity among women that they have to go and rip each other's egos apart.
Honestly I think its because your anonymous picture dosent seem as flattering. I don't know why but it looks like that women is heavier. The real question is why exactly isn't Ashley inspirational? its bad for young girls? how? 99% of the time the cover is somone really skinny. you always here people say that showing these photo shoped girls is bad for young girls self esteem because it sets impossible standards. now somone who breaks the mold is put on the cover and people still want to complain. Those women you gave as examples have amazing bodys. no different then what is always on the cover. They are athletes. to some achieving that size is not easy. this just comes off as wanting to complain and never making some people happy.

But the double standard you mentioned in the first part of your article... it more than likely has to do with body proportion. Yes Ashley is a plus size model
However, magazines for decades have been glamourizing the Kate Moss and Twiggy body types as the "ideal" gorgeous woman
I am fat at 179#s and 5'2" tall. I have tummy rolls. I used to weight 113-120#s tops. I looked skinny
I applaud Ashley and SI for highlighting a real normal looking woman.
She doesn't have rolls of fat or unsightly bulges.
For too long, the media has held up the "ultra skinny with big boobs and sexy hips look" as "perfect"!
So many girls went on starvation diets ( I did) and developed anerexia & bolemia.
Ashley inspired me to stop trying to kill myself to look skinny.
Yes, she is NOT the typical swimsuit model.
My man is 46 yo
I asked him which he prefers:
Skinny big boobs like Elle McPherson or Ashley Graham
He said Elle is very eye appealing but Ashley looked sexier and more realistic.
Just my. 2 cents worth
