Does birth control really make a period less painful? or other options to help?

I've always had painful periods but they are now getting worse. Everyone says that birth control is probably the best option? has anyone ever tried this and had good luck with it? or has anyone ever tried anything else that has helped really well. Thank you in advance!

I used to have terribly painful, drawn out periods. Painful as in unable to go to school or work. Drawn out as in between 3 weeks and 6 months long. I went on the pill for it and it helped a lot :) I am concerned about the long term health risks, but whenever I've tried going off the pill, it's back to being housebound, so... Back on the pill I go...

Birth control saved my life. Mine were so painful that if miss a week of school every month in middle school! I'd also loose a ton of blood, so much that I'd be dizzy. It was the best decision my doctor and I ever made about my body.

Thank you so much! I am currently missing a week of work every month because they are terrible. Just started today so hopefully all goes well :)

Good luck. It takes about a month before you feel the full effects, so if this period still is miserable, wait till the next before trying a different pill.
