There should be no pain in your tailbone. It sounds like you're very skinny. try doing the situps on a comforter. by the way you will only get results from doing pushups within the first week or two. Thereafter your body will adjust to the stress and no longer grow.
You will get used to it. Are you doing it on carpet or hardfloors? If you're doing it on hardfloors, try carpet. If carpet still doesn't ease the pain a bit, get a yoga mat. They're like $8 at Walmart.
Use a ppillow or do them on a mat. I know that pain you speak of and it sucks. If you aren't careful you will bruise and possibly tear some skin. Hurts like a bitch.
