What workouts do you recommend for the 2400 meter? Track/running?

So I'd like answers from runners and track athletes. 2400 meters is 1.5 miles or 6 laps on a 400 meter track (if all of this is greek to you don't bother answering)

I've been breaking up my running. Speed days then distance days. My week was something like this Monday 1x 1200 then 4x 800. Tuesday - 4 mile on the road. Wednesday 3x 800 sprint only the 100 meter sides of the track then jog the outside corners. Thursday 3.5 mile run on road. Friday 3 x 1200 then tempo 400s only sprint the 100 marks.

I want to get faster at the 2400 meter. My best is an 08:48. I'm bad at pacing my runs as I go to fast then get tiered. I usually get around 0120 for a 400 just gliding and my best is 66 seconds.
What workouts do you recommend for the 2400 meter? Track/running?
