1. Environmental: the meat and dairy industry are the number one cause of global warming, soil degradation, loss of biodiversity, deforestation of the amazon, ocean dead zones, water consumption, and so many more. https://www.cowspiracy.com/facts/
2. Health: countries with the highest rates of cancer, diabetes, heart disease, osteperosis, and many more also have the highest rates of animal product consumption. I could get into the science of it and the reasons why but it would seriously take me over an hour to write and include the sources.
3. Ethical: there's just no excuse for eating meat and dairy. The amount of cruelty in the animal agriculture industry is just ridiculous. There's a quote that says "We have enslaved the rest of animal creation, and have treated our distant cousins in fur and feathers so badly, that beyond doubt, if they were able to formulate a religion, they would depict the devil in human form." Let's say there is a hell and when we die we go there, what would hell look like for animals? They live it every day... What could be worse than what they go through

4. Religion/Spiritual: I have a friend who has claircognizance and calirsentience. You might not believe in that kind of stuff, but being friends with this guy will turn you around. When I met him, he literally came up to me in a room full of people and said "Wow, you're aura is so clean and beautiful. Have you done anything differently lately? Maybe a diet change or meditation?" and I was like... "I went vegan about a month ago?" lmao It was crazy, but I really do believe in karma, reincarnation, energy and all that. The meat and dairy industry is just filled with so much negativity that when you eat it, it would make sense that you then absorb that negative energy. I just don't want to take part in something so evil, but this might be a little too "new agey" for you lol.

5. Economics: Because of the health implications that eating meat and dairy give, the government has spent over 190 billion on health care on diet-preventable diseases. If people were vegan, imagine where else that money could have gone to? Also, the government subsidizes the meat and dairy industry as well in order to make it more affordable for the western world. If the world was vegan, we could spend that money elsewhere towards things that really matter. Maybe subsidize plant agriculture? People would be able to afford healthy eating finally. I mean, who's gonna eat healthy is a burger can be bought fro 1.99 and a salad is 7.99

6. World Hunger: It takes about 13 pounds of grain to produce 1 pound of meat. By that math, we could easily end world hunger. 40% of corn and 67% of soy in the US is fed to livestock, which just doesn't make sense mathematically. Why feed the majority of our food to livestock when we could just eat it ourselves?

I'm vegetarian but it actually wasn't something that I just decided to become out of the blue. When I was a kid I just gradually stopped eating meat products, I just stopped liking the taste and I started to understand where that meat comes from and I was disgusted that I'm eating an actual animal. It wasn't a fast process, it happened gradually till I stopped eating meat at all. I haven't eaten any since I was like 10.
Now that I understand everything, I know my main reason for not eating meat is animal cruelty, I'm so fucking against it and it's like one of the worst things in the world. But I'm also glad it helps the environment. Even if I wanted to eat meat now, I know I physically couldn't do it, my body would reject it.

coming from caribbean/latin American backgrounds there was/is a lot of meat in my family's diet. when I was very young, about 4 or 5, I just didn't want to eat meat anymore. I thought it was disgusting to eat animals, so I had been vegetarian since then. I've now been vegan now for years and being older I would say that the decision is a combination of ethnical, environmental, and physiological (health) reasons.

No, I'm a pescatarian. I eat fish and other seafood but land animals are out of the question and I just can't eat them.
