And they said that they feel something which is equivalent of pain.

Depends if they have nerve endings that send signals to the brain.

I ain't no horticulturist, but plants do have nerves or brains. So your answer is no lol

They have defense mechanisms and can tell when they are damaged. But I don't know if this is a sort of pain in the traditional sense we think of. I don't know if a plant is complex enough to feel pain like a cow or bird.

a part of me thinks so. have you ever seen how sad a plant looks after it's been baking in the sun for hours? and then you pour water all over its leaves and roots and it looks happy again.
