Im going to entertain answering this close minded question just to see if I can get rid of the stupid or at least make it less.

Hormones are great dictators in our body- from mood swings, PMS, dictating how organs work, are developed, and even breastfeeding. Weight gain, retention, or loss can be affected by hormonal imbalances. The so called will power has no say against your hormones. The body sees it as starvation and just like in the aboriginal and Paleolithic era, it will make sure it survives!
On top of that, Nutritionist and personal trainers have a piece of the puzzle. I hate it when all they tell people is to count calories and exercise. What about the reason why these people are overweight like the diseases above? In reality, if you seek to lose weight you should visit a doctor that specializes in nutritional deficiencies and an endocrinologist. After deficiencies and other potential problems are fixed, then hit the gym and count calories. You can't ask a rusted machine to produce without it being well oiled
Unlike everyone here I'm not going to attack you because I'm pretty sure I see where you are coming from. Yes there are people who struggle to lose weight due to hormones and such but even then it shouldn't be enough wait to where they are obese. So yes it is normal for those with hormonal issues and disease to carry some extra weight. Correct me if I am wrong, you feel that fat people are sympathathized for the fact that they are fat when the truth is they never even tried to lose it (anywhere from eating healthy to exercising to even seeing a doctor). The ones that just complain all day yet don't try to change it. So yes the person who died from the heart attack it was a tragic death but it could have been prevented.
What's with the fat bashing today? I don't get why people worry so much about what other people do with their lives. It doesn't really affect you. If you don't like to see it then don't look. And, no, it's not always their fault. There are many medical conditions that cause people to gain weight and they can't control it. It's like the guy who had a medical issue with his balls and they just kept getting bigger and bigger until he couldn't even leave his house anymore. It became life-threatening. We can't always control what happens to our bodies.
A lot of morbidly obese people are actually troubled mentally by things and it could be as simple as not having a friend or somebody to talk to. Generally the overweight people who don't go as far as morbidly obese just need that kick to get in shape and eat healthy or not as much food. But if you look into the morbidly obese people a lot of them are eating because they are so saddened and they eat themselves into that state. That is why a lot of them get sympathy. Eating ends up being their way of coping.
If you try being a friend to one you could easily be that person that snaps them out of it. On the other end, should some issue arise, they could very well go back into the overeating as a means of coping.
I agree with OP. Only few of the obese people are obese due to health complications. For the majority it is simply a self-destructive behaviour.
You die of alcohol use, drug use, obesity - you had it coming.

Wow. That's pretty ignorant. We sympathize with people who have eating disorders such as anorexia, bulimia--well, not everyone does, but it's a disorder. They need help. If someone is overweight to the point of their life being in danger, then it's actually very likely it's not exactly 'their fault'. You need to take metabolism into account, as well as financial status--in America at least, crappy fast food is cheaper and so a lot of those in poverty, but not such deep poverty as to be unable to afford it at all, are overweight, and healthier food takes time to prepare that people who have to work multiple jobs often don't have.
And if someone is fat but not unhealthily so, then don't sympathize or be cruel. Their body, let them be about it.
You can't label every fat person as lazy or saying that its their fault. Some people are born with naturally slow metobolisms. People like that have to work 10x harder than normal people in order to keep themselves fit and healthy. Some people just can't handle that much stress and pressure, so they just can't keep the weight off. Its not because they are lazy.
Take myself for instance. I used to be excessively obese. My family all has very low metabolism, so we have to work our asses off, jut to maintain a slightly overweight size. Over the course of about 7 months, i lost 60 lbs despite my slow metabolism, and i am still losing weight at a slow, but steady pace, and i am nearing 'average weight' on the BMI scale.
But you have no idea how HARD i worked to lose that much weight. I pushed myself harder than i ever dreamed possible. And some people just don't have enough will power to do what it takes.
So no, in most cases, it is not THEIR fault that they are overweight.
Just like anorexia being obese might mean you have some type of eating disorder. Usually caused by emotional trauma or body dismorphia. It's sad that people don't know how to sympathize, and that people who may have thyroid problems are called lazy and that they deserve their health problems
Well... it's not always their fault. To some it's actually a medical condition that causes / contributes to being larger. But aside those exceptions yeah for most fat people it's just due to poor life decisions. Society in general has gotten easier on people; I mean if you have kids who play sports (for example) regardless of if they win or lose everyone gets a trophy at the end. It's just a sad reality that I don't foresee changing anytime soon.
Actually sometimes it's just genetics... so no its not really their fault
Some people are born with the genes, so not for everyone it's their doing.
Yes some should change their diet, but those with the genes have it harder to change it
It's pretty broad strokes (no pun intended) saying it's their fault. I mean, did you choose to become the person you became or did you just become that person?
It's not always their fault. How about the millions of kids that grow up eating fast food and junk food every meal. That's the parents fault.
Opra winfrey is fat and she is worth over a billion dollars. What if she said "why are poor people sympathized?"

Because that could be me or you on any given day? Even though it would take years for it to happen... it could. So yeah I'm guessing that's why.
Just because someone died of something they could have prevented doesn't mean their death isn't sad.
It's sad to see what they've done to themselves. And besides any death is tragic. It's sad when someone dies, maybe not to you but the family is probably grieving.
Because some fat people work out and eat right and they're still fat.

Death is tragic, not only to the person who died but to their families. . just because they are fat doesn't make them less of a person
