Depression (dysthymia "chronic depression") is a chemical imbalance in the brain and it's when there is not enough dopamine "happy chemical" realised into the brain. it's considered a mental illness because the depression is in fact all in someones head. unfortunately we can't control if we get depression or not because some people have a predisposition to get it... you could say it is a feeling but i think since it's so much more intense and actually interferes with someones life style that i think a feeling is to weak of a word to describe it as.
you can also have depression that only last while a certain event is happening, this form is not as serious and does go away on its own eventually, this one i would consider to be a feeling
Depression can be inherited genetically. It also can be temporary until you do everything to resolve your problems. It also can be induced by drugs or being surrounded by the toxic environment full of cruel and stubborn people.
I think it's both from what I been experiencing cause I was sad and cried in
Second grade and still battling it.. I got Bipolar and that is bad cause no one
seems to understand me ,. I feel at times I'm losing the battle no one loves me
everyone seems to be against me.
I believe it can be both a feeling and mental illness. With mental illness comes feeling.
