Do you think the US is heading in the right direction?

This question goes beyond a simple opinion of Obama and is more geared towards the overall direction of the American livelyhood.

Credit card regulation takes effect February 22nd and credit card holders I'm sure have noticed the changes. I do have a credit card and have felt the effects, but I do support the move in the long run simply because it was about time the thieving credit card companies got a small taste of their own medicine.

This health care reform though, I do not support and neither do most people and it's even going so far as that some states will not support and enforce it under the 10th amendment. This is a move towards socialism and is the same thing as the government telling the American people each of them have to buy a brand new $60,000 Ford F350 every year. Different denomination, but same concept. I thought this was why we crossed the Atlantic, to get away from oppression from socialist (nearly communist) dictatorships. This bill on it's bare bones level does the following: raises our taxes, raises our deficit by another 12- or 13-figures and then makes it harder to actually get health care that has only fallen behind the times because of the half-trillion dollar cut to medicare's budget.

Obama wants to close Guantanamo Bay, I'm not sure if this has actually happened or been blocked or what since I've been kind of out of the loop about it these past few months. It sounds to me like he's content with holding people who want nothing more than to kill all of us on our soil and at the same time leave a known hostile country unchecked.

Government spending is completely out of control, there has been talk of a second stimulus package to add to our already 14-figure deficit and there is no end in sight. It seems our government thinks we can just spend our way out of this crisis even though Obama clearly stated around this time last year the he's doesn't "think this is a crisis we can spend our way out of" my question is then why are you trying to spend your way out of it?

Obama has made comments about plans to reform our energy, exactly what he wants to do is a mystery but I wouldn't be surprised if it meant we'd all be paying a fine if we drove a vehicle that got less than 30 miles to the gallon more than so many miles a year.

This whole "going green" direction that our government is taking us in, personally I only see it as a way to take our freedoms away, a wise man once said that when the government says they're going to make you safer or help you (by doing whatever) get ready, because you're about to loose your freedom (looking at you patriot act, should've called it "socialist act").

Overall in the long run I believe this country is headed to something like what western Europe is like, which is why we left western Europe 500 years ago.

What does everybody else think? There aren't really any right or wrong answers since everybody is seeing the same evidence and just perceiving it differently. Opinions?
