I don't necessarily say it would 'destroy' you muscles, but it's certainly not healthy. I'm currently studying to be a physical therapist and from what I've learnt about exercise therapy, is that too many reps and too many sets takes the training into endurance training (meaning he'll be able to lift weights for a longer amount of time).
The strength training is active for the first few reps and sets. Tell your friend to lift weights that meet his one-repetition max (the heaviest he can lift). Tell him to do three sets of three reps. This is called overloading, where the body has to adapt to an overload, which means it needs to build muscle and strength to adapt to the heavy weights. Once he finds that lifting his one-repetition max weight becomes easier, tell him to up his weight. Hope it helps03 Reply

+1 yFunny as it is but I can build muscle very easily. You only need a day or two break. Depending on how much you can lift, you want to lift what you can that is slightly easy because of all the reps you will be doing. It's not just about how much you can lift in the smallest time frame, it's about endurance and keeping up with reps to 3-4 sets. After 3-4 sets, I know I will feel it and then I allow I body to take a break after 2-3 days.

Not only this, but after a short while, I will gradually increase my weights. It is just really unsafe for your friend to be lifting weights the way he is. He should start slowly and gradually build not just his muscles but his weights too and always get in at least 2-4 sets of 15-30 reps. The more reps and sets the smaller weight you need. But, if he expects immediate results then any other way is not only dangerous, but he won't be getting the "immediate" results he is looking for. It really does take time and patience, but if he hurts himself, don't let it bother you. You warned him, just know that you know better than he does 😊

I understand how frustrating that is, especially when you know what the right thing to do is and he refuses to listen to you. I was lucky enough to have friends like you teach me, and I was not arrogant in learning the right way. In my head, I could not move on until I learned what the right way is because I didn't want to hurt myself. I have great form now. your friend needs to take a step back and actually learn.
- +1 y
Not to mention, using momentum is not the same as actually using your muscles. The results he is looking for is increase in muscle and decrease in fat. Momentum means nothing when u are trying to accomplish this.
- +1 y
Also, one more thing. Your friend needs to know that when he builds muscle by actually completing the minimum reps, AND taking a break, he will be on his journey of seeing the results he wants. The more muscle he builds, that faster is fat will decrease because more muscle=faster metabolism.

I totally understand. He is not teachable because HE chooses not to be teachable. I know you care and want the best for him, but what can you do when he chooses not to listen? You can't change anyone, but you want to provide him help, and he won't receive it.
- +1 y
Stop talking to him and start showing him. Actions speak louder than words, how the old saying goes. But it's true. Stop talking and do our own thing. Only answer when he asks questions.
- +1 y
Lol there you go. As far as I'm concerned, you tried helping him and it's his choice to receive your help or not. But you know, in my observations, when I've given it all I've got to my friend and loved ones, I realize that maybe "I" am the one who should take a step back and only five what is asked of me. In this way, when people do ask me questions it's because I know they want to learn.

+1 yIf you work the same muscle non-stop your not giving it time to rebuild itself. I go to the gym 6 days a week with a one day break. When i go i work a different muscle everyday
Day: 1 legs
Day 2: Triceps/biceps
Day3: Back
Day 4: Full body
day 5: legs
day 6: abs
day 7: break
- Sometimes i switch it up, and lots of people have different week set-ups. But i suggest not working one muscle non stop throughout the whole week. You can destroy your muscles as much as you want or one muscle but you need to give it time to take a rest so it can rebuild and you can see GAINZ.18 Reply- +1 y
Also everyday i start with a 12 minute warm up run on a treadmill going 6.3 mph, cause running is good for you lol.

+1 yYou can lift most days, but you need to split your workouts right. Unless you're taking an anabolic steroid, you need 5-7 days for the muscle fibers to rebuild. That's the whole concept, the weight training breaks down your muscle, and it rebuilds stronger. But if you don't let it rebuild first, you're not maximizing the efficiency of your workouts. There are schools of thought that contend that "structural support" muscles, like your lower back, abs, and calves can be trained more frequently, which I somewhat believe in, but I'd still say more than 2x a week for those is overkill.

And depending on your goals, you'll want to do 3-4 sets of any exercise, but the rep count and appropriate weight will differ. Generally speaking, higher reps of lower weight will tone and solidify a muscle, but won't grow it. Heavier weight at lower reps will stimulate growth, but you'll also need to eat properly and getting a certain surplus of caloric intake, and you want those calories mostly coming from clean carbohydrates and lean protein.

No it's not good. Think of building muscle like getting a cut. When you workout your muscles tear at the microscopic level.(the sore feeling you eventually get is the inflammation from those tears). When you get a cut it takes time to heal. But if you keep recutting that wound it never heals. Muscle growth is from the muscle building new fibers where the tear happens enlarging the muscle. But that rebuilt new muscle never happens if you keep re tearing it without it getting a chance to heal.
Also high reps means he isn't lifting a heavy enough weight. He is building endurance maybe but not strength or mass. Usually for strength training you never want to go above 12 reps there's a few FEW that I go up to 20 reps with. Ideally 8 depending on the exercise (like the bench press 8 reps is the highest you really want to go)00 ReplyYou need to give muscle groups some time to repair so no, you shouldn't work the same ones every day.
As far as reps go, it entirely depends on what you're trying to do. Low reps, 3-6, with heavy weight, about 80% of your 1RM, is what you'd do if you're trying to build muscle mass. Higher reps with lower weight, about 55% of your 1RM, is what you'd do if you wanna get toned and build endurance.
Looks up "Soviet Muscle Workout" or "Russian Weight Lifting Scale" and you'll find artlices that explain it. Here's a good one for you: www.muscleandfitness.com/.../soviet-science-brute-muscle-workout00 ReplyYou can go every day but if you work the same muscle every time they will not have to to build up before you break them down again. An easy way to do it is chest and arms one day, back and legs the next, and then core and cardio the third. That way you get everything in there and still give your body time to recover.

+1 yyou can go everyday but it's best to take a rest day. but you also shouldn't work the same muscles everyday because they need time to heal. when you lift weights, you're tearing the muscles and they have to rebuild themselves so you are correct with 5-8 reps of the highest weight you can lift without injuring yourself, but you should never work the same muscles everyday. alternating between legs and arms each day and then taking a day off is probably best. :)
01 Reply1st of all no u can't gain muscle mass trainning everyday the same muscle.
the muscle need rest and recover at least for a day.
how many reps you do doesn't make you grow more or less. more reps get riped and low weight get mass its a mith.. what makes you grow its the food u eat and the rest u give. one problem overtraining u maybe thing u do it but i wil lsay u dont.. when u do it maybe some day i nthe future you u fell it.. and bodys are diferent.. some react better with low reps orther not. so understand your body and dont judge others. learn with your mistakes and with the mistakes others make00 Reply- 699 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic.
+1 yYou can't work the same muscle everyday. You will end up pulling something. It's best to work 1 muscle group, then a different one, and keep switching it out like that. Then have 1 day for either a rest or active rest. But you need those breaks to let the muscles repair themselves first.

+1 yyes, highly trained peopel can, asuming they have a solid and finely tuned diet.
The average person needs 1-2 days of restitution. That's why most sane trainers recomend focusing on muscle groups. That way you can rest one muscle group while training the other.00 ReplyWell, theoretically your muscles will only really start growing/increasing in mass the day after the workout so by working out the same muscle groups everyday you're kinda doing an unnecessary amount of work instead of just skipping a day after every workout to end up with the same result..
Of course there's always a danger to overuse/strapasise a muscle but then again isn't the crazy amount of unnecessary work far more annoying? ;P00 ReplySome time is needed to repair muscle, so he needs at least one day of rest every week. Otherwise, he won't make optimal gains. There is no time to rebuild the damage he's done by lifting.
Also, if he can do 30 reps, then the weights he's using are too light. He needs some resistance to build muscle. He should aim for 5-10 reps per set and no more than that. Otherwise, it's pretty equivalent to cardio, which does little to nothing for building muscle.00 Reply- 559 opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic.
+1 yyou gain muscle by your muscles rebuilding micro tears. i do (sorry, did) arms, abs and chest on mondays and thursdays and did legs and back on tuesdays and fridays. it worked out fine for me. low reps high weights on monday/tuesday and high reps low weight on thursday/friday

+1 yThe most ripped, buff guys I know workout everyday. Make sure you eat enough.
Doing more reps builds endurance and tones the muscles. 4-8reps build mass and 8-15 builds endurance and tones.
Muscles are rebuilt when you sleep a majority of the time. It is best to alternate between the two00 ReplyYes and no. Most people are way to quick shout "overtraining" and while it does exist, most people never reach that point. The problem with training the same muscle
Everyday is it leads to muscular imbalance which effects performance and aesthetics. So yes you can train everyday without actually overtraining, but it is not wise to hit one muscle group consistently over others.00 ReplyUnless you consume large quantities of protein every day and take both pre & post workout supplements to aid in recovery, no it is not healthy because your muscles will eventually start breaking down more than they build back up.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yIf you want strength you can do the same every day with a light weight or just a couple of reps. But if you really want results and especially if you want muscle mass then you need to do a good workout and then miss a couple of days. After a good workout you destroy the muscle and then it takes a few days to fix and grow back stronger. If you did it every day you would just keep destroying it before it could fix

+1 ydude - rest days. they're a necessity. if you don't let your muscles rest, they won't actually become stronger.
00 ReplyI have the same thought as you do. I allow time for muscle to build back up. I work other muscle groups on off days.

Dude I always tell him the correct thing but because I tore my calf he told me isn't taking any advice from me like wtf? :v by the way... he isn't working his muscles enough to build them at all. He's literally doing 30 reps on everything. Lets say his biceps are developed for 10 pounds, he would take up a 6 lbs dumb bell and start doing like 30 reps each dang set
Every other day at most and I alternate upper and lower body.
