Can you tone your butt without squats?

So I am recovering from a disease called dermatomyositis which is an autoimmune disease that attacks your muscles. I am getting much stronger than I used to be because of my treatments and I would like to start working out and getting my body back. I particularly want to work on toning up my butt and (hopefully) making it a little rounder/bigger but the problem is that I'm not yet strong enough to do lunges and I can't go all the way down parrallel with my squats.

How else can I tone up my backside? Do squats still have any benefit if they are unweighted and not super deep?

I used to have such a nice butt before I got sick... help me out!
