One extreme case doesn't mean that smoking won't kill you.
Non smokers can get cancer, and smokers can live to be 87 and die of non-cancer related things. It happens.
Good genes. If your genes are good enough you have nothing to worry about. the problem is, we don't yet know who has good genes and who doesn't.
Smoking doesn't automatically kill you, but you have a way higher chance of developing lung cancer if you smoke than if you don't.

Id say maybe his father would of died at 100 instead of 87 with much improved health over his last 2 decades
Id also say that maybe people smoke for many years. That is pure 100% genetics protecting him
Try it and if you dont got the genes you going to get something major. Problem is you can't test for 'genetics' that will protect you. So its a risk
A girl use to work at a bar for 5 years when they use to allow smoking in bars. 5 years in she got lung cancer for just second hand smoke. What do you have to say about that?

Obviously not everyone who smokes will get cancer and diseases, but your chances greatly increase.
Not everyone who has unprotected sex will get pregnant or STDS, but your risk will greatly increase.

Being unhealthy doesn't guarnatee an early death, kind like how going to war doesn't gurantee death, but it's a hell of a lot more likley than someone working in an office
