Don't sleep on your ear!
Actually, I'm an insomniac, When I CAN sleep, I'm also someone who has had habitual nightmares for weeks. It's been that way my whole life.
One thing that I've tried that seem to work lately is self hypnosis. I seem to sleep better, and not have so many nightmares. For the past month that I've been doing this, I think I've had at most 3 nightmares, which is a vast improvement. I'm still fairly exhausted, though I get 9 hours, but.

I eat dinner late so that helps. I do a lot during the day so I'm tired, and I drink a glass of water then brush my teeth before I sleep.
When your in bed turn off every light and your tv. Anything that makes noise try to stop it.
Then you just relax and don't think of anything, just.sleep.
This is not a stupid question. Something that helps me but I'm sure does not help everyone is sleeping with the tv on. I cannot fall asleep without that additional noise in the background. One thing that I know helps a lot of people is quietly playing classical music or one of those relaxation cds of sounds of nature. There's always some sort of sleeping pills too. If nothing seems to work though I would talk to your doctor. Best of luck.
First you need to see a doctor for your earache, could be nothing or serious. Don't prolong
this any further. Second, try eating no more that 2 hours before bedtime and no caffeine after
6:00p.m.Still have to have that caffeine, try hot tea with honey instead of sugar, read a book,
put on calming music, exercise. If you still have problems you might need to discuss this
also with a physician. Good Luck!

take your bath half an hour before going to bed, drink a full glass of skim milk, and play some soft music.
Reading a book until I'm tired helps me sleep!
