About being "real"?

Does anyone you know present themselves as real (as in brutally honest, genuine to themselves against conformity, etc.)

...that are really just assholes/bitches trying to justify their "asshole-ness"/"bitchiness" as a positive trait?

I can't help but to think that when someone says "i'm real"...that it's a red flag to signal nasty & ugly attitude.

What are your thoughts? Do you personally know any people that can fit into this category? Do you process the statement "i'm real" the same way that I do?

YES! I know quite a few of these "real" people, and it does seem its a way for them to be an asshole/bitch towards you. They say what's on their mind, or their not "scared" to speak the "truth". The funny thing is these same people are the ones who can't handle the TRUTH when it comes to themselves. I tend not to bother with these people, as they think they know it all & they are always right. I don't have time for that. I do know a lot of genuine down to earth people, who know how to say what they feel in a nice way and they will speak the truth but not in a way that is offending. I think its a bunch of BS when people keep it "real" but they are an asshole about it! Even myself...im not a confrontational person, but if I think differently about something, I will just point it out in a nice way...so then they can see if from my view. Its all about approach! Nice question!

Omg yes! 90% of the people who are "I'm so real/I keep it 100" it's like no...you're just a bitch/asshole. If you have to use a catchphrase to explain yourself you probably have some character flaws you might want to address. You can be honest and still use tact.

Yes- me. I'm known among my friends and the people that know me well enough to be the blunt and firm type of person. I'm not sure if I'm an asshole, I'm sure I am but couldn't say for sure since I'm biased and know me inside and out. Basically, I'll talk or say things that a lot of people will shush me for and say "You shouldn't say that". I just think people shouldn't be so fragile and bitchy about hearing things :)

But yeah I know what you mean about people saying that. I don't run around spouting it off, but the people that do seem to have that hidden motive or something. It's like they're trying way too hard to show everyone that they are strong and confident. It's actually sort of annoying. If you're blunt, then just be blunt. There's no need to tell everybody about it.

I hate it when people think being an asshole automatically equates to truth. Considering yourself "real" is egotistical, that's like assuming everything coming out of your mouth is word of God, and an absolute truth. That's bogus.

I consider myself a jerk, but I don't go around saying "I KEEP IT REAL DAWG". That's just my God-given temperament. There are many things I don't know, and there are many times I'm wrong. Folks who "keep it real" are just hard-headed and have no consideration for other people's opinions.

I'm blunt and honest, perhaps brutally so. I'm full of compliments but I'm not afraid to call you out on something. I'm not intimidated or scared by anyone's opinion.

Then again, I use connotation to my advantage so I never say 'you're fat' or stuff like that,
