Weight loss tips for a teen boy?

I played lineman on my high school's football team. It's my senior year and now that I'm not exercising with the team all the time, I feel like (and know) I've gained a bunch of weight in fat. I want to lose weight both in the short term and over time now that I have no need for it. I was planning on giving up pop and just drinking water instead, cutting back on snacks, and getting back to regular exercise by working out and running for about an hour a day. My motivation in doing so is that when I'm with my friends I always feel great about myself but when I look at myself I feel so unconfident for lack of a better word. My questions:

1. Do stretch marks (either from weightlifting or fat) go away over time, especially as I lose weight?

2. How much weight or inches off my waist do you think I can lose over the course of a month or so?

3. Are there any tips from experience you'd recommend?
