Three main reasons:

1. Poor diet - if you don't eat a diet rich in Vitamin D, more fool you.

2. Not getting out in sunlight enough - the body naturally manufactures Vitamin D in response to sunlight - so being out of doors regularly when the weather is nice is a way to enhance your Vitamin D levels. If you exercise sensibly outdoors, this will be doubly beneficial - brisk walks, sensible jogging, cycling, outdoor swimming in warmer places.

3. Believing rubbish written in the MSM - if there's one thing all young idealistic people need to learn, it's that you can't trust the MSM for ANYTHING. If you assume that the MSM is abusive rather than normal men are all abusive, you'll be a lot closer to a healthy adult position than if you believe the reverse...
