I haven't been to the doctor in over 4 years. I have been quite obese and wasn't taking care of my health. For the past 2 years i have noticed that i get thirsty very often and i have a dry mouth and this went on for several months. I was always in denial and thought maybe i just have IBS and an overreactive bladder. But i thought this year i would make a change and try to diet and exercise. Well, after losng 10 pounds i noticed im less thirsty know and don't have to pee as much. But i completely eliminated sugar out of my diet. Know i am convinced it's diabetes. I have been reading online that type 2 diabetes can go away after losing several pounds and im about 5'8 and 235 pounds know which isn't too bad but before i was almost 250. Im not sure what to do should i go to the doctor? The symptoms have gotten better after losing some weight. Im thinking i should at least try to get down to 220 pounds before i see a doctor. But im not sure what should i do?
Nurse here. I'll always tell people if they have any concerns about their own health, they really shouldn't hesitate to see their doctor. Either the doctor confirms your suspicions and you get treatment, or they find something simple or nothing at all and you can resume your normal life.
In your case, diabetes, no matter the type, need to be diagnosed by your doctor and a management plan and education in place for your diabetes. I've seen plenty of patients that have lost toes, feet, and legs due to undiagnosed or improperly managed diabetes.
Go get seen by your doctor.
