A lot of young guys in their 20s and early 30s love to lift and brag about how many pounds they can bench. Its a huge part of their ego. Young guys in their 20s love working on their physiques. But then when they hit their 40s, a lot of them quit benching. They turn to slobs who dont care about how they look any more

I used to be able to lift a bus when I was younger, now it is a small car.00 Reply

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yLifting for that long will often end up in wear and tear of the joints and over the years they suffer injury so stop. Unfortunately it seems few know about the isometric static lifts that allow just as much muscle building, but with none of the downsides of dynamic lifts.

Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yThere's a lot of reasons. Chronic injuries. More important priorities. More duties as far as owning a home, bills, maintaining the home. Taking kids to school events, sporting events. Dates w the wife, visiting her family. Working OT a lot. I was never to lifting weights myself growing up. I was in shape because of the military, it was part of your job so of course we ran almost every morning at 0415 for 3-5 miles. Now I have a zillion things going on. I try to go to the gym maybe 3-4 times a week, even at 3 am. But honestly w work, OT, new puppies, kids, only male at home trying to fix things, cutting the yard (huge backyard), vehicle repairs, trying to build a wall on my front porch, trying to learn Spanish lol, growing my plants/crops, trying to lay down wood floor planking at home, trust me I'm always busy. When you're younger you don't have as many obligations. Maybe you're still living at home. Still dating, don't have to live w her everyday of the year w her wanting this done and that done. Plus working nights. You don’t know what day it is sometimes. Then she has her medical issues as far as diabetes, so I take her to her appointments, getting ready to start w dialysis. It's a lot. I'm the only one who works, so can't be sick or call off from work. I'm not complaining, those are just some of what I deal win my daily life. Gym isn't a priority.
00 ReplyYou must hang around a lot of effeminate men. Most men never really care about their looks. Guys can be clean shaven or they can let it go for a few days because they don't really want to shave. Guys can get ready to go just about anywhere at any level or formality in 5 minutes. If a guy's been working outside, he doesn't care that he's sweaty and stinks, that he had dirt or saw dust on him, or even blood. We pee on the side of walls in the middle of cities... Really, image isn't a big thing for us... Stop hanging out at gay bars with guys that wear makeup and maybe you'll start understanding men a little better.

Asker+1 yyoung guys care about their looks. thats why they work*** out for their physique. but as guys get older, they stop working out. go to any gym, you will find that the vast majority of guys working out are men in their 20-30s.

guys work out because they want to look good. thats the main reason. some guys want to look muscular.- +1 y
When we lift at the gym and brag about what we can lift, it's a competition among each other to be stronger than the next guy. It has nothing to do with looks. It's more like motivation and camaraderie among pals. We want to be stronger, faster, better, etc. and we want the men we run with to do better as well. They depend on us and we depend on them.
Asker+1 ymen don't compete when it comes to lifting. men lift because they want to look good. and no, men dont really care about who is faster or strongest.
Asker+1 ymen workout because they want to look good to attract women.
Asker+1 ythats very funny how you contradict yourself
how are you supposed to be strong enough to fight wars, lead, protect families, do physical labor , build things, move things... if you're WEAK as hell.
women like strong men. women dont like weak men. thats why men work out.
Asker+1 yvast majority of men don't fight wars, or build things or protect families. they sit at office jobs like a bunch of beta males trying to pay rent.
Asker+1 yWomen are attracted to tall young strong men with broad shoulders and muscles and abs. Theyre not attracted to fat guys.

That's the thing. Nobody cares what you want. Most guys don't pander to vanity waiting around for someone to come pick them. That is a female behavior Men go out and do thing in life taking initiative to get what we want, and that action, confidence, ability, etc. tends to attract women.
Asker+1 y@bemuse
Why would a female take a old balding fat man with confidence when she can pick a hot muscular young man with confidence?
Mating is a competition
The best mate with the best.
Asker+1 yQuit pretending like hot girls want your ugly ass. You can't compete with guys who work out

Yeah that's why I was a state champion in freestyle wrestling at 220 LB in a state of over 22 million people, because I couldn't compete on the basis of strength and skill. That's why I was number one in the entire state and was ale to eat every single guy that step up to me. You should get back to your call center little Indian boy.
Asker+1 y@bemuse
continue dreaming, weak boy.
i only date police officers and firefighters because they have muscles. i don't date weak men

Also, I question the sustainability of strength training as you describe. Going all out and getting your ego involved is not a sustainable practice into the long term. Like being able to strength train in a sustainable way is a skill. Some people get injured and probably give up. Injuries can be persistent as you get older. I'm lucky I kind of focus more on calisthenics because to me it seems better at preventing injury. When I do weighted equivalents I find I injure a lot more easily. Lucky I've kind of learnt to look after my body and I've never had any major problems.
Plus people get lazy. And get other priorities.
I mean ultimately, health, sustainability and aging well are better priorities than bragging about how many lbs they bench.

Asker+1 yexercise is a crucial part of health and aging well.
Cost of finding out 90% of single women don't blink or look at 80% of men, seriously. Men will try when women care about looks beyond the top 20% of guys XD. Its like the same concept as to why quiet quiting and the great resignation happened societally. People work harder if they know they are appreciated. if no one gives a damn then why should I a man work harder if it doesn't even matter.

+1 yI work out in about 3 different gyms regularly and I admit that the majority of the patrons both make and female are 20 to 30. There are definitely a good ammount in the 30 to 40 range also. 40 to 50 skins out but still enough. 50 to 70 is where is really starts dwindling.
The reason is lack of testosterone production which is caused by raising a family or getting out of the dating game. The best ways to increase testosterone is by excersice and eating the right foods. Married couples for the most part don't care anymore. Its the best way to improve their sex life but it's not a priority in their lives.
My father used to put me down in my 20s for going to the gym regularly but he pretty much put me down for everything. That's the thing I wished I had pursued in spite of his comments to me.
00 ReplyBecause a guy is more likely to sustain an injury if he continues to lift weights at an advanced age. Slipped disks, muscle pulls, ruptured tendons, etc.
00 Replybecause other priorities in life begin to take place over lifting
plus the body begins to break down and injuries don't heal as quickly
00 ReplyHumans at their 40s are not in their prime anymore and it make many old people give up.
