Anonymous(18-24)+1 yI think it’s pretty difficult but nobody talks about how you basically can never quit, you will always have to restrict your diet in some way, count calories and/or exercise continuously in order to maintain the size you have achieved … it never ends

+1 yBoth. If calories in is more than calories out, then you gain weight (other conditions notwithstanding).
If you want to try to lose weight, start by increasing your exercise first. After a couple months, then gradually drop some of your calorie intake, but keep eating protein!
Your body needs to develop a need for the calories. If you just taper off the food first, your body will accept that as a new norm and drop its set-point accordingly, further reducing its need for the exercise. So, increase the exercise first, then drop the calories.

totally restrictive never works. If you give in make sure its reasonable. 2 slices of cake are better than the entire thing.
I know it sounds gay but its about a lifestyle change and not a temporary diet (very important)
make sure u get sleep and drink in order before u worry too much about ur weight loss.
If ur lazy (who isn't) try going for walks instead of streneous exercise. Its not gonna change everything over night but if u keep at it it will improve mood and metabolism by itself. Think 1.5 -3 miles a day. u can do as much as u want. humans are made for this. I sometimes go for 10 miles if im bored (music and look at nature)
QUIT SODA YESTERDAY (again not 100 restrictive)
consider drinking less alcohol it has way more calories than u think. some amount of hunger is required to lose weight especially if u aren't 400 pounds. differentiate between cravings and actual hunger. If u experience one of these sit down have some water take a few breaths an think which one it is. bonus say to yourself this feeling is only temporary (which it is) BREATH good luck i hate you

weigh ins on scales fluctuates A LOT. Always check at the same time of day and similar circumstances. I reccomend in the morning after emptying urself.
Also dont get so hung up on the scale especially in the beginning cuz u ACTUALLY might have gained water weight or ACTUALLY gained muscle. I would also look in the mirror and be honest about if u see any improvements.
Compare yourself to YOUR past self NEVER others
i have never hate someone more than you.

+1 yIt's very simple, but not always easy. I used to be pretty obese as a kid. It comes on faster than it comes off. I do charity races every weekend in 40lbs of body armor, so I'm in better shape now than I was as a kid obviously, but that still doesn't mean I get to shovel 4000 calories meals of deep fried butter into my mouth as a result of it. I didn't "give up" very many foods, I just learned to eat them in responsible quantities so there'd be the caloric deficit I needed, and I got off my butt and did something so it gave me less time to sit around and eat.
If you really want this you can do it. Nothing tastes as good as health.

+1 yIt's all in the mind I guess
It will be of course hard in the beginning to eat much less and not eat things you really love and also to perform movements that your body is not familiar to
But eating less and moving more is all you need
Plus I would suggest running is the most simple and effective exercise and please don't get confused and intimidated by all those weird ones apps and YouTube suggests you
So if you can eat very very less (Intermittent fasting and stuff) and exercise more often, you will lose fat and once you start seeing results you won't go back

+1 y"Is it the food or the lack of exercise or no physical movement."
Both. Losing weight is based on a simple formula. You have to burn at least as many calories than you eat or you will gain weight. If you are gaining weight and don't want to you either have to eat less or exercise more. It's really that simple from a biological point of view. The problem is psychological. You have to be able to have the self discipline to achieve that behavior. And for some people that is very difficult. They eat too much of the wrong foods, get too little physical activity, or both. And they are often in denial about the solution. It's a psychological problem not a physical problem.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yThe mental part is the hardest part of weight loss. You have to tell yourself everyday that you need to get healthy and to do the hard things you need to do to get there. And they are hard because you are attempting to break well established patterns, sometimes hiding/sneaking foods from loved ones, lack of quality exercise, laziness, or in some cases, you are fighting a really hard battle with additional health issues that literally make it difficult for you to exercise. It usually takes about 6 weeks, if you stick to it, to reset your brain to actually want to continue doing what you need to do to get healthy. Other people usually give it up before then and never see results and the cycle begins again.

+1 yIt depends on your body type. I am a mesomorph so I gain weight easily and lose weight easily. For me, I just can't binge eat but I almost never exercise. I should but I don't, lol. But one time when I got sick, I dropped from 117lbs. to 107lbs. in two days.

+1 yHi there, I've always had a major weight problem all my life from being a youngster to now, my issues are exercise is what I need to do, but I find where I live now is impossible because the roads are all torn up I find for me walking is about the best thing and years ago this Christian exercise instructor told me that walking program of 15 minutes a day makes one burn calories, but I feel my bad problems is carbs I need to decrease.
10 Reply1.6K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. I think it's a simple thing but it may not be easy for everyone. For instance, unless I'm doing a bunch of cardio, I will be closer to 20%+ bodyfat if I just eat whatever I want. But since I do watch what I eat & workout, I'm sub 15%. It's easy for me to maintain because I specifically eat certain foods & have a specific structure of eating that promotes satiety for me.
00 ReplyIt's 70% food, 30% exercise.
You can literally be a couch potato and lose weight as long as you eat less calories than what is required to maintain your weight.
Being healthy is another topic.

+1 yI think getting the motivation to lose weight is the hardest part.. but once you get a routine going it isn't so bad.. and staying away from junk LOL
10 ReplyI know from experience that it can be difficult. I didn't start losing weight until I started restricting my food intake, taking cold showers, and increased my strength training all at the same time.
10 ReplyIt's easy if you never gain it in the first place.
I never got in the bad habit of eating sweets and snacks, just two low carb meals a day. I am never hungry and never craving anything. My weight controls itself.
00 Reply4.5K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. It is hard but not impossible. I am down 8 pounds with another ten to go. As long as I stay healthy i should do it.
10 Reply3.3K opinions shared on Health & Fitness topic. I must be one of the lucky ones. All I have to do to lose weight is eat less & be more active.
