I would say stress might be involuntary. I get a precautionary health injection on a routine basis and the doctor that does my needle is very bad at it and it hurts like a slap in the face or worse every time and this time when I knew I was about to get the injection, I could feel my stomach twisting in nervousness cause I knew I was about to get a very brief but real pain in my arm. I'm surprised I was that scared of a painful shot cause it lasts less than 10 seconds, so I thought I could tell my mind there was no reason to be scared, but my body immediately became scared at the knowledge I was getting the shot.
I think the stress itself is not. But the emotions it causes (i. e. anxiety) can spread...
It is contagious, you catch it from your kids
