How true is that Autistic are late thinkers?

I overheard a woman said Autistic are late like she said a 13 years old Autistic still think she's 5 years old in mind. How true is that?

That’s not true. There are extremely intelligent autistic people.


What autistic people struggle with is intuitively understanding social conventions and social skills.


Most people can learn through immersion and osmosis — just being part of a social group and learning what is and what isn’t socially acceptable, by simple observation.


Autistic people on the other hand, need to be more intentional and need to work harder to learn social behaviors, because it doesn’t come automatically to them. It’s more manual. Some even study how to interact with people better.


Outside of socializing with people, if you talk about other areas of intelligence, autistic people are just as intelligent, if not more, than people who aren’t neurodivergent.

I've got no idea Tbh. But I can definitely relate to some autistic people when it comes to sensory issues.

It depends, It could be true for level3 and partially for level2. Level1 and partially level2 are conscious of the time and are able to properly define their person.

In addition, lacking social and other skills results in higher intelligence :D

I’m autistic and I’m definitely a late thinker. I’d say it also has to do with what part of the spectrum you’re on and what trauma in your childhood you may have experienced. As a whole, not necessarily true though a lot of autistic people have more broad knowledge and understanding of things which is more commonly seen in children.
There’s also a big difference between autism and Asperger’s. Autism are more likely to be delayed in mental capacity and Asperger’s is not.

It’s dependant on where you are on the spectrum. Even if someone is very high on the spectrum and non verbal, they excel in other areas in life. Neurotypical people don’t really take that into account though and just view severely autistic people as “retarded” or view them as a child.
