I heard someone say this once and on surface it seemed ableist and then I decided to dig deeper and discovered this

To say that a neurotypical person dating someone autistic "historically doesn't work" is not entirely accurate; while there can be significant challenges in such relationships due to communication differences and social cues, many neurotypical-autistic couples can have successful partnerships with open communication and understanding, so it's not a universal rule that such relationships will fail

Nope those relationships definitely can work. You gotta remember that autism is a spectrum so there are many different types of autistic people out there. Can't just group them into one category. Relationships work for some but not others just like for people without autism

Yes, some do work. But there are significant challenges over and above issues that all relationships have. And normal relationships fail at a high rate to start with.
There is also point that the NT partner is likely to be starved of some aspects of what they need and in those terms it's going to be compromise and may always feel unfulfilled in some way.

However, a relationship between a neuritypical persona and an autistic person is extremely rare to find (especially if the autistic person is a man, in which, for most women, it sadly is a deal breaker. Ultimately, women do have the right to reject men for being autistic, but can't say it isn't sad).
