I am a light sleeper to begin with. No matter how exhausted I am, I need at least 30-60 minutes to fall asleep. I need sleep mask, dark room and sometimes white noise to help me but it is still not easy for me.
I do one of two things. What works best for me usually is I close my eyes and try to “look”. Usually it’ll be squigglies or random images. From there I let one image morph into the next, they tend to be unrelated and eventually I fall asleep. Another one that works is that I’ll lay completely still and not move. Even if I feel like readjusting or have an itch I don’t move. Eventually my body thinks it’s sleeping so my mind just follows

Well, I've got ADHD and the meds I'm on are notorious for ruining sleep. My method is to press my hand against my heart and try really really really hard to slow down the heartbeat. Focus completely on the beats as I exhale slowly. About five minutes after that, I'm out 💀
That might just be a product of the medication, but it's a pretty simple method to try out if you can't seem to sleep 👍

I'm no expert but I assume you either have this gift or you don't. I do tend to flatline as my head hits the pillow and sleep like the dead, naturally.
However if something is on my mind I can be the polar opposite just as easily.
I tend to write my racing thoughts down, then tell myself they are there for me to read in the morning, I can't forget them. And that will help.I do not know. I fall asleep pretty fast most nights. I sleep for 4 or maybe 5 hours and I have to get up to pee. That is wean I cannot fall back asleep. Sometimes I might just start to doze off just when I am supposed to get up.
I suppose a clear conscience helps.
I fall asleep quickly and I can do it pretty much anywhere. It sometimes drives my wife nuts because she is more like how you described it... not really sure why as there isn't anything I do per se. My days are often active including exercise so I am sure that helps. I also think what is helpful is how I can just shut off my thoughts. I do not dwell on or overthink things so when it's time to zone out, it just happens - whereas I know my wife will be actively thinking about things.
I'm like you most nights. It takes a while for my mind to shut down.
I have had severe anxiety... for so many years. I did start taking edibles which helped a lot, but I woke up tired. Now I do a lot of cardio at least 4-6 hours before falling asleep, and don't look at my phone before bed.
I don't fall asleep quickly, but I don't have trouble. I use a weighted blanket. The benefit of one is that you actually need to exert effort to squirm in it. When you sleep it keeps you from moving too much in your sleep so your body is more rested. Also even if you're awake under it, as long as you aren't squirming, it helps your body rest. Until I started using one, it was impossible for me to have a restful sleep.
i could stay up for hours no problem. but i do get tired. all i have is the tv. and that keeps me up unless i start to doze. that's when i quit it, but i lay my head down with the tv on. it usually works but not always
Warm bath usually helps me.
you can also try eating grapes. Heard they contain melatonin which makes you sleepy

not even anesthesia puts me to sleep right away...
I would like to know the same thing.
I need these tips to cause it takes hours to fall asleep even if I'm dead tired
I have/had similar problems, the two best methods for solid sleep so far are:
- keep the same sleep schedule (in bed before 10.30 PM) seven days a week
- physical exhaustion (full day), including at least a small sports unit
I wish i knew. I either fall asleep almost instantly, or I'm up half the night, and I have no clue what determines if I can fall asleep quickly or not. If I knew I'd spend a lot fewer late nights trying to fall asleep.
don't read or watch TV or be on your phone in bed. Let your body associate bed with sleep.
Get regular exercise.
No caffeine after 5 pm or within 5 hours of bedtime
Go to bed when you are tired, not before, and not when you are over-tired.
Would love to know always takes me forever to fall asleep 😪
Give yourself a orgasm and you will sleep just fine afterwards 💯🤭
You just need quiet and some black out curtains and you husband to give you a good workout
Be tired enough, lay down, think of happy things that are relaxing & chill.
Get lots of exercise during the day. Dark room. Put on a quiet podcast.
