Apparently this was a common thing parents did for their kids when they got sick. Just rub a bit on the chest and try to sleep.
I did this a couple times maybe but mostly used a ventilator thingy personally

Yes, it was very common. At least for things like the cold and the flu. My mother swore by it for my brothers and I.
For my part, I was not fond of having to wear a towel around my neck. The towel going on after the Vapo-rub was applied. However, my mother told me, that helped it to work.
Honestly, she was probably just telling me that to get me to stop picking at the towel around my neck. However, it seemed to be confirmed in that I generally felt better - or at least slept better - after it was applied.
Nowadays I don't use Vapo-rub. However, the Vicks nasal spray smells just like it and seems to do the job. Sort of medicine by nostalgia you could say.
I have received it as a kid, and I have used it in adulthood as well when I was congested and needed to feel those vapors. It was usually applied to my chest, but when I was a young adult I also would put a bit on my upper lip so I could breathe in the full might of the vapors. I also used to have a vaporizer that I could use when I needed a little something to clear stuff up, and it had a sort of slot to insert pads to allow for vapors in the steam.
Nope. But I remember we had this Vicks thing where you plugged it into the outlet like a night light. It was made to help you breathe better and stuff when sick, but it just made all of us feel nauseous and wanting to throw up. Why? I don't know. I didn't throw up, but my sister did. That stuff is like Superman's real-life kryptonite.
And my mom thought we were overreacting or lying about the smell of it making us vomit everywhere.
I used it when I was a child and I still use it. When I was a child, my mother or my older sisters used to fill up a bowl with warm water and vapor rub. Then I was supposed to cover my head with a blanket and inhale it. I absolutely hated it!!! 😂😂
Now I just rub it on my chest.

I used it as a kid sometimes. I use it on rare occasions as an adult, but not for colds. I use it for sore muscles, especially a sore back. It's like using a heating pad. It's basically the same as Tiger Balm, only a lot cheaper.
Yes and I use it on my kids too. It's best to put on their feet with socks. When I was a kid my parents put it on my chest and it would burn 🔥
I done that with myself and it didn’t do anything for me I unfortunately kept coughing all night
@LaurenM1997 it's worked with my kids but I use the all natural rub. It's made out of eucalyptus so maybe the real vicks wouldn't work
Ah I need to find it
Yeah the last time I tried a remedy that didn’t work where you rub it into your feet and wear socks to bed it didn’t do anything i still coughed
my mum used to make us smell it then rub it on our chests, behind our ears and a little at the top of our backs lol, i still do it
I am rarely ill , but would still use it now if I were , maybe not Vicks , but same thing , I like the smell , no idea if it actually works.
Yep, that’s still a thing. I don’t like feeling sticky.
Yes.., good stuff… as well as other oniments.
Yep, it's especially popular in Latino households
I think I used that one time when I had a cold as a kid
My mom put it on me once or twice but I hated it. I couldn't breathe. It took my breath away
yes i love that stuff
My parents used Vicks and Tiger Balm.
Forehead, chest, back and top of lip.
Yeah I use it and some crystals
@RebelinSteel crystals?
Never seen those before. I'll. have to see if they work for my kids. Thanks for the info,
Omg, yes. Oooof. The harsh stuff.

did it work for you?
I never used Vapor rub as a kid when sick.
Yeah. And sometimes still do it to myself.
No, never.
