Obvious some people need it but seems like most of the wonen i know are on some sort of antidepressants like zoltoff, prozac, Paxil. When I had a baby the first thing my GP did was offer antidepressants to me. Was talking to some women about it and apparently they are all on something to take the edge off.
There are some antidepressants that doctors give to their patients and are using them for what they call "Off label". Take the antidepressant Trazadone. It is used off label because it puts people in the deep REM4 sleep 😴 and when you are a pain patient you need that type of sleep so you can heal and feel better.
Another antidepressant is often given to patients who are very sick and it actually makes them feel better.
On the other hand, doctors do give out antidepressants like M&Ms candy. I think that they believe that antidepressants can help with whatever ails you. Seriously!
I don't agree at all that doctors should give antidepressants to people who aren't sick or depressed. And the people should be tested for depression before prescribing them
I was taking antidepressants when my son was 17 and in the hospital dying. They did help me with dealing with that. But as soon as he was better I stopped taking them.
People can ask their doctor why they are prescribing them and refuse to take them.

Just to be crystal clear, many antidepressants require you to wean off of them over time. Not doing so can be dangerous to your health. Always coordinate with your MD when stopping antidepressants.

What I meant was for the patient to ask the doctor specifically what diagnosis he has given a patient that warrants taking an antidepressant to begin with. And if the patient doesn't feel depressed then they could decline to take them.
And yes, along with your doctor you should always wean off of antidepressants slowly.
Never just stop taking them without weaning off of them first.
@sage2021 I suspected that's what you meant, but just incase someone else happened to read your answer and wasn't aware of this, I wanted to make sure they understood that it can be dangerous to stop abruptly with some antidepressants. I very much agree with people having honest conversations with their doctors and to never feel like they can't ask why the doctor wants them to take a particular treatment/medicine.
I will probably catch slack for this but itâs probably because women arenât as mentally strong as men. Women tend to carry a lot of things w them that happened to them years ago. Men will usually turn it into something, to motivate theirselves to turn that bad experience into something good. Plus all their emotions, putting too much feelings into everything when life isnât that hard. Then Iâve always noticed a lot of women watch all these crime shows, drama shows, etc. So that makes it even worse on women. Thatâs probably part of the reason why women are always so on guard about men because theyâre watching all these shows that involve killing. I work on the medical field. I canât tell you how many of these women each day have some sort of mental issue going on. Always talking about needing mental health days. The men, we just work. Get our shit done then chill out. The men who are like that as far as mental health issues, breaking down, having issues, theyâre more feminine or gay. Women are more susceptible to criticism. They take things more personally. Some men do to but no where near that of women.
War. Being in fights. Breaking up fights. Experiencing lethal violent situations and dangerous jobs. These are things men generally experience way more than women, they always have. Itâs not easy to forget violence where you almost died, multiple times.

The pharmaceutical industry has captured the regulation process and is able to sell antidepressants despite the evidence that they have a tendency of making the underlying condition worse in many cases. This is a little bad for antidepressants and downright alarming for other psychiatric meds where the evidence supporting their use is shaky at best.
Americans in general have been taught for a few generations now that if there is a problem there is a solution in the form of a pill. Americans seem resistant to having to expend effort to fix problems theyâre facing when a pill is available.
Also thereâs people who are just struggling and donât know what else to do, antidepressants worked for some so of course theyâd give it a shot. I donât blame them, theyâve just been misled.

antidepressants should be prescribed by a psychiatrist, not a GP... especially benzodiazepines, which shouldn't be taken for longer spans than 6 weeks with at least 6 months breaks between (they are highly addictive)...

Coincidence is not correlation. Who knows if those 50% have a diagnosed mental health condition or were simply offered antidepressants and simply took them.
General practitioners can prescribe antidepressants. They are not psychologists or psychiatrists and not proficient in handling clinical depression. But perhaps a patient "said" they feel depressed and the doctor decides to take them at their word.
This is not a rational practice and antidepressants usually stop working after 4 to 6 months of regular use. And they should be combined with talk therapy and regular monitoring. If none of this is being done, then this is abuse of a drug.
Antidepressants also have side affects. One of the regular ones is sexual dysfunction: Zoloft is known for this. I know. I took it. THAT made me more depressed. So I stopped. Better to be able to have orgasms on occasion than to be unable! UGH!!
Oh and weight gain. That always makes everyone feel better! Fat! Geez.

I'm on Zoloft personally. I've tied paxil and a few others too. I think it's a stressful time to be alive. Our diets kinda suck, we live sedentary lives. We get little sun, And we are constantly being bombarded with social media and Ads showing us why our lives suck.

But some people have made some absolutely horrible choices in life particularly liberal women. This is a logical leap. Correlation â causation. It could be, for example that more educated women tend to be more liberal, and that more educated women also tend to seek medical help for their concerns while, less educated conservative women may be suffering from mental health issues at the same (or possibly even greater rate) but they're not being diagnosed because they're not seeking professional treatment for it (possibly because they're unaware that their situation may be treatable).
I had a cousin with schizophrenia who grew up in a religious household. Instead of giving him actual medical treatment by taking him to a doctor, they prayed for him and believed he was being tortured by the devil or something.
Probably because we aren't meant to be in these highly stressful jobs and positions.. and now that social media has taken over, many woman don't get the community support from friends and other woman like we used to have.
