Alot of water on the plane. Drink a lot (prevents jet lag). Pack some activated charcoal (in pills from health food store); these are really good for diahrea, which is pretty common to get . I also take ginger pills, which is good for motion sickness or nausea. Do most of your money exchanging at ATMs (they will be at the airport). Use credit card whenever possible (you get the best exchange rate that way and aren't paying a fee to the middle man).
No matter what, do not get sucked into political conversations. Keep your voice down at restaurants (Americans are naturally loud). Use the gas pump that says "super", not the one that says "gasoline" (that's diesel). Be ready to go out much later than you are used to. Like, starting at 10-11pm and going till 6am.
Otherwise, have fun, fun, fun. Spain is really two countries, Spanish and Catalan (they speak there own language). I thought the people were a little shy but very nice. They like to try speaking English with you and appreciate hearing you in English.
Beaches are commonly "clothing optional".
