Why did my fear and discomfort levels change so much from childhood to adulthood?

When I was a child, a friend told me she used to have problems with her nose as an infant and had to breathe out of her mouth for several years.

As a child, I thought the idea of breathing out of your mouth instead of your nose was absolutely horrifying.

As an adult, I do that without even thinking when I am tired, and it does not bother me at all.

I was nauseous a lot as a child due to illness. And the idea of being nauseous as a 9 year old terrified me beyond comprehension.

As an adult, being nauseous is only a little unpleasant, nothing that causes severe anxiety or large stress.

I would not say I am totally fearless now, but it seems my pain tolerance and stress tolerance has gone up.
