What is a fear that you have now that you did not have as a child?

I was never afraid of heights as a kid. I used to climb trees, ride on roller coasters, work on roofs. When I was about 40 years old all of a sudden I went on the Ferris Wheel with my son. I discovered that heights scared the crap out of me.

Death. As morbid as that sounds. Having children is the most amazing and most terrifying thing I have ever done.


Hell, my mother just reminded me the other day that Jacob Wetterling was 11 when he was kidnapped while riding his bike to the local Tom Thumb in rural Minnesota back in the 1980s. She asked me to “take good care of” my boys, one of which is currently 11. 😳


Anyhoo. Long rant even longer. When I narrowly saved youngest from that speeding cop car this all became too real.

Swimming in oceans and lakes. I used to swim anywhere. I don't mind scuba diving, but I get a little paranoid swimming at the top and not being able to see what's in the water with me. Now I stick to clear water.

@TrueConfection. I used to go scuba diving. There is a sunken ship near where I live and I went through it. It was pretty creepy.

Yeah, that wound be creepy. I did a might dive in the South Pacific one time. My ears wouldn't regulate, so I had to swim back to the boat on the surface. That was scary. I could only see whatever I pointed my light on and it turned out to be 4 or 5 sea snakes.

Yikes, I have seen dogfish, blue fish and other kinds of fish. I used to spear fish for flounder. It never bothered me. A sea snake would scare the crap out of me. I would wet myself if I saw a moray eel

I've seen lots of eels and sharks. The sea snakes are frightening. One bite and you won't make it to the boat.

I have learned to separate between fear and danger. As a kid, i was afraid of wild street dogs and snakes. Now! I don't have much fear, unless it's real danger and what is dangerous for me is the stupidity of people that i can't stand and it is realy realy dangerous

One thing I'm afraid of now that I never would have thought I'd be afraid of is the threat of having my freedoms limited and curtailed by big government and corporate media working in lockstep with one another in my later years.

I can't think of anything that I am afraid of now. I'm not afraid of heights anymore. I'm not afraid of dying, I'd probably feel better if I did. I'm not afraid of getting electrocuted while working live.
Maybe I'm afraid of not being able to perform like I used to if the time came. That's the only thing I can think of.

I'm afraid of losing my loved ones. I am terrified of the things they could possibly encounter in the world-- out of naivete or otherwise. I am afraid of technology rising up against us (yes, I know their digital-AI-spidey senses started tingling as I wrote that).

Also tsunamis.

Big empty cement swimming pools. Especially with some leaves from fall trees, like maple 🍁 🍂 🍁 trees. Still to this day I don't know where this fear comes from 🤷🏼‍♀️.

I have no fears. Sounds like bullshit, but I am for real not afraid of anything. There is nothing beyond physical pain that anyone can inflict on me. Not really part of your question, but the last one I feared was myself.

I mean I'm definitely more alert and scared about real life situations now as an adult. Like walking to my vehicle alone at night. Or just being attacked or harassed in general.
