From the moment I hit puberty at 11, I had acne for over 12 years. I know exactly what you are going through. In my case it was all hormonally based. I was on topicals and oral meds for years. Nothing really worked for me. The only prescription med that worked well was Retin-A.
However, if you really want to get aggressive then go to a dermatologist and inquire about accutane. This is probably THE best drug out there to combat this annoying condition. With the accutane, your skin will become worse before it gets better because the drug is actually lifting all of the crap out of your body to the surface. As time goes on, your skin will become clearer and clearer. You will be sensitive to the sun, experience very dry lips and mouth and some other side effects.
Good luck.

Cutting back on dairy and sugars, drinking lots of water and foods in their natural form. Also investing in a mild exfoliating scrub with as many natural ingredients as possible, don't have really hot showers. Almond oil helps fade acne scars and rosehip as well. It's all about avoiding harsh chemicals and opting for natural alternatives. Oh and another few things are to always sleep on a clean pillow, clean your phone with an alcohol wipe and make sure your hair products are good stuff. That's pretty much all I can think of that I've changed. My skin is super nice these days but you have to stick to it :)
I got a bit of acne I just think its hormones and such but that being said I got off lightly despite going through some heavy growth spurts and thickening of bone structure compared t othe rest of my class mates.
Dunno but the major differences between me and my acne scarred mates seemed to be my meals were home cooked with lots of greens and such (no junk food or carbonated soft drinks or refined sugars), plus I love sea food and was at the beach in the sun nearly every day.
I believe that the salt water was good for clearing acne up. But I am sure some douche will argue that.
I'd try going vegetarian. It works for some people, and you can ably start eating meat again after it goes away, as long as you limit how much.
Vitamins, esp D, can work for some people as well. A little red wine can't hurt, either. But generally, it's hormonal, and only time will straighten it out.

Depends on what your acne is caused by! It can be hormones that make you break out, your skinn might act up because your body is not feeling well and just out of not washing your face. If it's about hormones or health stuff like proactive is not going to help and may make it worse. Have an appointment with a dermatologist if it's bad, cut back on sugar and diary. Wash, exfoliate and mosturise. make Sure you know your skintype too. Dry skin needs another kind of care compared to oily skin.
I had acne because of hormones. Went to the dermatologist and ate penicillin for 4 months. I don't eat any diary products anymore and my skin is so much better after one year :)Well, since everyones skin is different I wouldn't use the stuff like proactive, its all a lie. What I use is honey and crushed adoring tablets that I mixed together into a gelish state and that worked from me since they both contain antibacteral ingredients. I just rub in in the area of the acne and let it sit a few min then wash it off.
-believe it or not, dairy caused the majority of my breakouts. I completely cut out dairy except for consuming organic goats milk and my acne cleared right up :) you can get calcium in higher more digestible quantities from goats milk, green veggies, almonds, etc.
-if you don't want to change your diet, differin gel (retin-A gel or cream) works VERY well too.See your doctor, ask about a prescription of roaccutane.
for me soda and greasy foods triggered outbreaks but if your acene is severe go to the dermatologist and have them prescribe you accutane.
