so for the past few days my back has been hurting into my stomach. or possibly vice versa. I'm not really sure. it's right around my rib cage. I get pains under my ribs and an ache in my back that literally feels like it's in my ribs. I just want to cry. I've been studying a bit and sitting in my chair at my desk a lot. maybe that's it? it won't go away and I have a final on Monday I need to study for but I'm afraid I'm getting sick! :(

I was having similar pains (I still am, sort of), and I was also sitting at my desk a lot or sitting in bed studying. It's probably a pulled or strained muscle, or just the stress causing pain. Try to take a hot bath and loosen up any tense muscles first, and make sure you're not sitting in one position for an extended period of time. If you don't feel better after your final, though, it wouldn't hurt to go to the doctor.

thanks. I thought it might be this. I was trying to find it on webmd and stuff but they didn't have exactly what I was looking for. I just was worried it was a virus and really don't want one of those during finals! :/ lol

Well, it could be a thousand things. Do you drink enough water? I have/had kidney stones and the pain is normally in my back, but it can sometimes come around to my stomach as well. Also...maybe endometriosis? Is this recent or has it been going on. These two ideas are just worst case scnarios. Chances are you could be really stressed and maybe pulled a strain in your back like other users think.

Maybe you have some inflammation in the cartilage from sitting too long in an unnatural position. but it could be a thousand things, few of them serious. I doubt you're getting sick. See if stretching a lot doesn't help but if it gets worse or stays the same more than 24 hours, get medical attention.

lol I would go to the doctor but I'm in college out of state so I don't really have a local doctor to go see. so my only option would be the hospital...then I encounter the problem @slickricky mentioned...

It could possibly be acid reflux, but you should definitely go to the doctor. (Sometimes acid reflux can create pains in the stomach or regions around it. You can feel pains in your back because of the acid reflux build up. )

it's more upper. but it spreads from the upper into the middle.
