Is diabetes contagious?

I just found out my boyfriend has diabetes and quite frankly, I'm disgusted. I don't know if I want to continue a relationship with someone who is .. well.. broken. But, the thing that I fear the most is catching it. I don't want to be 'one of them'. Am I at risk of catching his disease?

I'm frankly disgusted by your attitude. He's a human being, not a piece of furniture. People are not object made to satisfy you that you can just discard because it's "broken". The fact that you could just dump a guy who you presumably cared about before over a fairly common and pretty much invisible disease is disturbing. The fact that you haven't even bothered to learn anything about it just makes it infuriating.

Imagine if one day you found you had a serious illness. That alone is hard to bear. Now imagine someone important to you just decided to abandon you all the sudden. Your feelings, all your good qualities, they suddenly don't matter because you're "one of them". Can't you see how cold and cruel that is?

No, diabetes is not contagious. It has nothing to do with contagion (it is not caused by bacteria or any sort of pathogens). A simple Google search would have easily led you to the information you're looking for: link

All diabetes is a high level of glucose in the blood. Prominent symptoms are increased thirst and increased frequency of urination. While it can put one at much higher risk for other health, problems, if you manage it well (proper diet and exercise which you should be doing even if you don't have diabetes and taking insulin if needed) you can be as strong and healthy as anyone.

It doesn't matter at this point whether it is contagious or not, but in case your inanity is, I suggest you do him a favor and break things off. Having a health issue doesn't mean a person is broken, but go ahead on your quest for perfection, and don't be upset when you end up alone. Your concern over dating a "freak" shows you're hardly mature enough to date in the first place.

You ought to be ashamed of yourself, but I doubt you have the capacity.

You can catch diabetes through breathing, eye contact, skin contact, and thinking. If you engaged in any of these activities while in close proximity with your boyfriend, you have most likely extracted diabetes. It's a very volatile and contagious disease... I'm surprised you aren't already binge eating mayonnaise jars and sh*tting bricks.

Diabetes is often genetic, it's not his fault.  More of it is caused by too much meat /sugar in the diet..also  not really his fault, it's the way most people eat here in the US.   Diabetes can be managed with diet and exercise in many cases nowadays.  People aren't really 'broken.'  And if he's otherwise a good person, why would that turn you off?
