IDK I have mixed opinions on this. Depression as a chronic disorder (which means it's a life time disorder) is a mental illness but going through depressing stages in life is not what I would classify as a mental illness. I mean I have bipolar disorder but that's going to affect me my whole life, but other people also experience ups and downs in life but that does not make them bipolar. It's kinda the same principle for me. There's a big difference with a constant depression struggle every day of your life where you need therapy and medication and your normal depression that goes away after a while. Am I saying once is better than the other or worse than the other ? No absolutely not, depression stays depression and it's terrible but mental illness for me is a state of mental health that is a life long thing, not something that can goes away after a couple of weeks. But like I said, I'm not saying one is any less painful than the other. It's just the classification that I don't agree with which is depression as a mental illness.

People with mental deseases have witches living in their familie. They need to start a new life somewhere else. pray to jesus to get rid of demons and family in case nessassary who have a pact with satan.
The DSM IV says it is. This sounds pompous but anyone saying it isn't denies empirical data and research without providing anything but opinion.
Depression in and of itself is a broad, general term to describe one of literally hundreds of different diagnoses, all of which are considered mental illnesses.
That depends. Manic depression (bipolar disorder) is a serious form of mental illness. I wouldn't consider being depressed because someone died to be a form of mental illness; I would consider that kind of depression a state-of-mind. Such as being happy, angry, scared, enthusiastic etc. etc.

yes I consider it a mental illness but not like being depressed for a few hours because you drank too much coffee but like damn mike has been down for a while now, he's drinking not going to wok and losing the house he really needs to snap out of this, there is feeling crummy and not being able to understand that reality needs upkeep or things deteriorate and that failure to understand is definitely a condition its a temporary retardation
“Everyone at some point their Lives deal with depression.“ no, people deal with being sad. Depression isn’t simply feeling down sometimes. Go educate yourself.
i think you can not consider it mental illness. I would more consider it as a disorder. and I agree with the fact that everyone at a point of its life feels depressed.
yes this is ilness, very dangerous and serious, I'm sure that people who never was in depression can't understand it and think that this people are overacting.. but it's not true.
