Sprinting vs jogging?

Running distance makes you lose fat. A calorie deficit makes you lose muscle mass. With that said, running distance can help you achieve a calorie deficit.
Keep that in mind, and we'll look at pics of some mid distance runners and decide what we like. ;)

Tegenfeldt has your typical mid distance runner build. When we train for the 800m, we have a weekly mileage that is fairly high, but we also incorporate short distance sprints. Now where this differs from a 3200m runner is the sprints will be 100, 200 and 400m repeats, rather than 800 and 1600m repeats that a long distance runner would do.
If you looked at Tegenfeldt's workout regime it would probably be something like (including a 1-2 mile warm up and cooldown run)
M: Hills or 100m, 200m, 400m sprints
T: Recovery run 3-4 miles
W: Hard pace 5 miles
T: Recovery run 3-4 miles
F: Race/Meet/Trial or Hills/Sprints
S: Rest
S: Rest / Recovery run 2-3 miles

Noujani has more of a long distance runner build. She's thinner and less muscular than Tegenfeldt. Her workout regime would have a higher weekly mileage and her intervals/repeats/sprints are more likely along the 800m range.
Moraiti the thickest of them all, most likely has the lowest mileage, yet has the most intense sprints. With the majority of them likely being 100m or 200m and occasionally 400m.
Now they all run very close times, but they got there through difference means. Up the distance of the race and I bet Noujani would win of the three. Lower the distance and I bet Moraiti wins of the three. And obviously at this distance Tegefeldt wins.
Hope this helps give you an idea of what you want your running regime to look like. Anything else you're curious about just message me.
Sprinting increases speed. Long logs strengthens your cardio endurance. If you want to tone your body, though, you'd be better off doing weights/resistance training. You will burn more calories that way.
Sprinting builds muscles
Long distance jogging or long distance running will help slim your legs/thighs
Also, squats and lunges will help to tone them up, but don't do too many or you'll get bulky

i used to be a sprinter. let me tell you one thing: sprinting will definitely bulk your muscle mass. I have huge thighs. you don't want to look like her, do you? link
if you want smaller thighs, you should focus on endurance runs.
whatthef***
whenever I ask questions on how to get thin legs you never answer like this, you just condemn me :(
evangelina, don't be mad at me. I desperately tried to convince you that shapely legs are much more sexy (and failed terribly). you kept telling me you want skinny legs --> I have learned my lesson. truth is, I still do and always will prefer "curvy fitness legs", but that doesn't change the fact she wants smaller thighs. the fact I prefer curvy legs doesn't mean she prefers curvy legs, you know?
Sprinting is better for definition. Jogging is mostly for just cardiovascular endurance.
Do a distance routine with some 100m strides at the end. Best of both worlds.
