Vegetarians, and others alike-should I do it?

My family is KILLING a cow just to get the meat. I know this happens all the time, but it just bothers me that we're doing it just for ourselves. I told my parents that I won't eat the meat, because it's absolutely wrong to do something like that. I'm thinking about becoming a vegetarian, not just because of this. I don't like much meat anyways, so becoming a vegetarian shouldn't be to hard right? I need advice! Please help! Thanks!

My personal philosophy - I think your parents are doing the RIGHT thing killing the cow themselves. People go to the grocery store, they buy their packaged meat and never think once about where it's coming from. I personally think that to justify eating meat, you need to acknowledge the death (and that you are the ultimate cause of said death) of the animal that you are eating. So in my mind, if you can prove you are capable of killing the animal you are consuming, then you have the right to consume that type of meat. If you can't stomach the death of the animal, then you shouldn't be eating that meat in the first place. Whether you buy meat from a store, or more directly like your parents, the animal is being killed for you to consume, and is no different in my mind. It's all about respect for the animal.

If you can't deal with the idea of your family killing the cow, you probably shouldn't be eating beef at all. Same goes for chickens, lamb, pork, fish etc... hence why I only eat chicken, fish, and game.

I've done the vegetarian thing before but didn't really enjoy it personally so I slowly introduced the other meats back into my diet. It wasn't too difficult to make the change (unless you have an uncanny love of bacon or something) because there are tons of tasty meat alternatives.

thats part of the reason why I went vegetarian.

i just think its selfish to kill another living creature for my benefit, while there are other things I can eat. there are other sources of protein that don't involve killing another innocent living creature.

if you don't like meat already, it shouldn't be too hard to leave it.

unlike for me, it was really difficult because I loved meat. I was a big meat eater so I took it slowly. I started cutting back on my meat intake until I finally cut out all meat from my plate. as of today, I've been a vegetarian for about 6 years. I still miss meat but my love and respect for animals is even greater.

search online for vegetarian recipes. they even make vegetarian meat which is usually made with vegetables, tofu, or other ingredients. they even have fake chicken, veggie burgers, mock beef, etc. there's so many options. those things are pricey though. so if I don't eat that, I just leave out the meat on some of my food.

if you are forgoing meat for the sole fact that you don't want any animal to be killed you might have to become a vegan. they don't eat ANYTHING with animal products in it. You would be surprised how many things have animal products in it that isn't meat.

if you are becoming a vegetarian for health reasons than go for it. just make sure you add the right replacement foods to keep your iron levels up and anything else you get from meat.

personally I love meat and could never truly give it up, I don't eat it every day but I usually have a hamburger or something like that a few times a week.

I mean are we not supposed to eat!? I appreciate your concern for the cow and your interest in becoming vegetarian, but this process of livestocking has gone on for centuries. A cow's purpose is to produce milk and meat. To bang other cows so this cycle can continue and we can provide food and dairy for all!

You should become a vegetarian if it makes you happy, but you really need to leave everyone else out of it. People have the right to have their own feelings and make their own choices, and that includes you as well as your family.

If you want to set a good example as a vegetarian, then you need to be tolerant of people who choose to eat meat. It's OK if you think it's wrong, but you can never control anyone else, so just worry about yourself and do what is right for you.

it's a luxury that you can even contemplate this because if you were surviving you'd eat what you could get your hands on but as far as your question goes there's nothing to advise imo. If you don't like the idea of eating an animal don't do it anymore unless something happens and the luxury of that kind of choice is taken away (hopefully it won't be cause if it's taken away from you it will be taken away for all of us most likely) just make sure you get plenty of protein in other ways.

Do want you want to do, just don't preach to people who do eat meat, and don't act like you are better than everyone else, and no one will have a problem with you being a vegetarian.

Its much better to kill a cow and eat it then eat the beef sold in most stores.
