Did I make a mistake by initiating contact?

I met this guy at his job once and left without getting his name or anything...then a month or two later I saw him at another even. I found out his name and contacted him through Facebook, we really hit it off and he even invited me to join his friends in an outing. I didn't get to go so the next day I contacted him through FB asking how it went and he was less talkative. Maybe I'm over thinking all this, but was I too initiative in connecting with him? I haven't talked to him for about a week...waiting to see if he'll initiate. Trying to observe his interest right now...

He might have been disappointed that you couldn't make it out with him and his friends that night. I do not believe it is because you initiated anything. Either way, it is not your fault. It is up to you if you want to wait it out or ask him what is up.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. He probably was taking the opportunity to see if you would go out and then hook up later, especially if he doesn't try again to get in touch with you after this.
