My question is the ones who don't...why don't you like it?
Girls and football. Ones who don't like it
My question is the ones who don't...why don't you like it?
I just don't understand why people get so wrapped up in it and act so high and mighty when another man whom you will likely never meet, who likely doesn't even know you exist manages to knock down and bunch of other guys to get an inflated oval from one end of the field to the other.
And yet when a soldier in very little protection grabs a live grenade, and charges across the battlefield to try and save the lives of his battle buddies, there is no camera, or millions of hopeful spectators screaming, or holding their breath and praying he makes it. And that man doesn't even earn a fraction of the weekly salary that football player will earn. Kinda screwed up.
I hate football. >.<
I think the reason it doesn't appeal so much to women is because we're wired differently. Men are generally more in touch with their competitive drives, so take a lot of pleasure from watching the two teams battling it out on the field. If you watched football without engaging with the competition in it you'd probably find it a lot like watching paint dry.
Women are generally more wired towards social cohesion than competition, hence tend to find more appeal in things such as soaps and dramas which focus on human relationships.
It's compromising between these masculine and feminine drives that keeps society ticking over.
So explain the Miss America pageant
I'm English so I wouldn't know where to begin! I've not witnessed one in my lifetime. I don't think that a competitive drive is EXCLUSIVE to men, but it's often more pronounced in the male of the species. Of course there are exceptions to the rule, not all men are competitive and some women are very much so, it's just a generalisation. It also varies among cultures where people are exposed to different social norms.
My wife loves football more than I do, but she played sports in high school and college. I think it helps to be able to relate to the sports, and especially the one you're watching.
It's *generally* more male thing though. Football is a proxy for battle. It fills that need for men.
Yeah, by letting them watch somebody with bigger muscles and balls than them do all the battling. Clearly it's manly and not at all homosexual to get that into how built or strong another man is
If it's yourself, it's not gay, because you're just fueling your need to be the best, but watching other men? Really? That's always bothered me about guys.
They don't follow it so they aren't interested in it. It's just a game to them, I'd imagine that it's like a video game to their boyfriend, they just don't care for it.
How is it like a video game to him? I'm a huge gamer and part of the fun of gaming is that you aren't just sitting there watching sh*t happen, and that's why football is boring to me. There's no story to keep track of, nothing. I know there's a meta-series idea to it, in that you can worship the players and keep track of the news about all of them all the time, but it just seems kind of ridiculous and stupid.

I'm starting to like it. I never used to, but it wasn't that I had a problem with it. I just never sat down to watch a game. However, I've been working with all men for the past three years. All I hear is talk about football, that it was either get bored by all the talk or check out what the fuss was about, so I could enjoy it and talk about it too. And then I got into the football pool, so I had to actually learn about it so I could see what teams I thought would win every week. And the more I watch it,the more I like it. I'm becoming a Green Bay fan. I was very upset that they lost.
Too be honest, I don't hate football, I just don't watch it because I'm not interested. I'm Canadian, so maybe that makes a difference too. We aren't as big on football over here as some are in the States, but some Canadians do like it.
But to me it's just not interesting. I wouldn't care if someone liked it though, to each their own.
You guys have the CFL
Yes but it's not that big. At least not where I am from. Where I am from it's all about Hockey.
The CFL has always been fairly popular here and especially since Toronto won the Grey Cup. I was actually at the game and it was the first time I really took a vested interest in football.
I don't like foot ball (uk football) the players are highly over paid for the act of kicking a ball when there is doctors making 1% of their annual wages.
It promotes aggressive rivalry , I know men who have fallen out as they support the opposite team, in the uk football often turns to riots and fights . Pretty lame IT IS kicking a ball around
And again it's a ball going one way then the other then back again... Wow.
It's lame
I love baseball, and that's just about it. I was raised to love the sport, and football was never a big deal in my house. My dad was a Giants fan, but he got annoyed at them for some reason a while back and slowly lost interest; however, his favorite sport was baseball, so that's what I was raised on.
I'll get down votes for.. --> I find it retarded. They kick like ONCE and they call it "foot"ball ? ? ? ? Oookayyyy who was the smart one to name it? ? ? & They attack each-other like chimpanzees.
I love soccer though! That is TRUE FOOTball :]! I rather watch that! Besides, it's way more fun to play it. (You don't get attacked by apes with scary helmets for a ball) BUT it is interesting to watch guys be all amazed by this.
There are very few sports that I am interested in watching, other than the ones I have played in the past because I sometimes like to watch those. Watching a bunch of guys run up and down a field holding a ball just doesn't appeal to me. Add in the fact that the teams call a ridiculous number of time outs to drag out each minute, I find it incredibly boring. I have better ways to spend my time.
I used to like it back in school and when I was younger. I don't mind playing it, it's fun and a good bit of exercise! But I can't stand watching it either on TV or whatever, it's so damn boring! And professional footballers get paid way too much for what they do.
I didn't like it because they let Vick back in even after they said he would never play again. The way he treated dogs was horrendous. It seems these days a lot of the players are nothing but trash and are constantly on the news with negative media.
But it is ridiculous that the sport is more focused on money. They even went against their own promises to the public. Constantly you hear nothing but athletes who owe taxes, child support, and constantly in and out of jail. Even in college the athletes were given special treatment and given full scholarships to college yet they failed nearly all of their classes. Its just ridiculous.
I don't necessarily dislike it, I just don't really know about it all that well. I also don't know anything about different teams... I guess if it was something important to someone in my life I would probably catch onto it too.
i call myself a social football watcher, ill watch it caus every1 else is and I cnt avoid it. I don't like it caus it boring to me. always has been. I'm glad when my team wins (go 9ers!) but I don't like sitting it watching.
I don't like it. I'm just more of a baseball person. I go to my little brother's high school games all the time and my college's games on occasion and I know the rules but it just doesn't interest me as much as baseball.
I used to love watching football, until I discovered the joys of tapping my foot in the dark.
I personally LOVE football!
I have met girls who don't like it, they don't understand it in any way.
Some explained to me that they just know it's 2 teams who throw the ball and get TDs that's it.
I just can't understand so much fuss about it. If somebody likes it - fine, whatever, but I watched it only once and it was one of the most boring evenings in my life.
I'm generally indifferent towards football. I enjoy hockey and baseball a whole lot more. And my boyfriend isn't interested in OUR football - where he comes from football = soccer :-D
Why should I like it? It is just a bunch of monkeys playing with balls... and giving each other concussions...
Same reason some guys don't like football, I guess. It just doesn't "click" as something enjoyable for everyone.
I won't purposely seek t watch it
But if I happen to have to watch it I don't mind
Because I find it boring and uninteresting, I'm an artsy person.
The original poster is an idiot. Instead of asking why you don't like football, he should be questioning what about it he likes.
I don't like football because I don't care about anyone else playing a game. If they want to play against me, I'm down, otherwise WHY DO I GIVE A F*** HOW GOOD SOMEONE ELSE IS!?
Makes sense...
That makes sense...
same. plus I can't sit still. I can get into movie, but that's because it has a plot(usually)
I'm a guy and I think (American) Football is boooring.
