No! Coffee can help you lose/maintain a healthy weight. Caffeine speeds up your metabolism. However, lots of Americans load up coffee with tons of cream and sugar. Or get iced coffee drinks that are filled with sugar and cream. That can be as bad as soda or worse.

Take your coffee black or with no more than with one cream and one sugar. You could drink that all day and not get fat. Drink it black and it could help you lose weight.

sugar and creamer/milk/half and half will make you gain weight but coffee itself has very few calories and zero fat.

typically drinking lots of coffee will actually help you lose weight because it is a stimulant so it suppresses the appetite and hastens metabolism meaning that you'll eat less and expel more (if you know what I mean...and I mean poo more)

Actually coffe is an appetitie suppressant. It's one reason a lot of people drink it routinely. It will have a short term effect of suppressing hunger pangs.

As ctown says below, it's all the sugar and cream some people load into it that would make you gain weight.

A normal coffee (I think 8oz) has less than 2 calories. It's the sugar and creamer that add the calories. So, no, just regular coffee with nothing added won't make you gain weight. My nutritionist before didn't even count the coffee when she was counting my calories.

Coffee has caffeine, which helps mobilize fats from the fat tissues and increase metabolism.

If you're taking it with sugar and milk - obviously there will be more calories. But black coffee should theoretically help with weight loss.

Black coffee is a mild fat burner and diuretic.

A lot of cream or any sugar would change things substantially.

Coffee within it's base nature, I don't think so. When you start piling up all the good sh*t, like Half-and-Half and sugar, now we're talking.

Perhaps there are other factors causing your or someone else to gain weight.

It has sodium in it, so it might make you retain some water weight. If you put a lot of sugar in it, it can also end up turning into fat like any sugary drink.
