Are low carb diets really that good?

Some people lose a lot of weight on them. I tried it once and I also just ate less in general and I dropped weight.

But, recently I tried one again. Since being low carb/low sugar really minimizes your options, I end up eating a lot of cheese.

I think being low carb makes me consume too much fat because hey I am just hungry and I cannot always have lean protein ready to go!

Will eating too much cheese and nuts make me gain weight or not lose weight on this diet?

Am I better off watching my fat more closely and allowing a few carbs instead? As long as I avoid plain white flour or junk food/sugar products I think I can still lose weight while eating some carb.

PS I HAVE A GOOD EXERCISE PLAN already.
