Do most women get bigger as they get older because they have children or is something else?

I think it's very noticable that while a lot of people are fairly thin in high school and college they noticably gain weight in their late 20s and early 30s. Particulary here in Texas a lot of women gain massive amounts of weight and they say having children is a big part of it.

Idk I just gave birth to our son 3 months ago and I didn't gain a crazy amount of weighr. 2 weeks after giving birth I was "only" 12 lb heavier than before and I lost them pretty quickly through breastfeeding and light exercise. Sure not everything is as tight as it used to be (I don't have visible abs anymore :() but overall I think it really wasn't too bad. Am I the exeption?

Is it actually the pregnancy that make most women gain weight? Or it's too stressfull to balance work and children afterwards? Or something else?
