Should I quit my internship?

I'm low on cash and have been looking for work for the past two years. No one really wants to hire me because I'm a student and part-time jobs are very limited where I live.

A few weeks ago I got an email about an internship and I thought I would like to be a part of it with the hope of developing myself professionally and also to make some extra cash.

I went through with the interview and I got the position, then I was told that we were not going to be paid but instead work for free. I still went along with it because I really wanted some experience in my field, however, traveling back and forth from home is a bit costly.

Two of my friends and my mom said that it was taking advantage of people. But I do it because I'm hoping for the best. What should I do?

thats weird that they don't pay you. The school I go to guarantee that the companies that look for interns PAY the students. And guarantee interns won't be doing bitch work (bring coffee, clean, drive people around...) they actually learn how to do some kind of job.

I would suggest you look for a different company, they are taking advantage of you
