I've had some success doing some of these exercises with dumbbells. I lift five times a week and about 40 minutes per workout. I started off with smaller weights (10 pounds) and have over time added weight and repetitions to my original workout. I have seen a difference in my appearance after a couple of weeks. Make sure you don't hurt yourself but at the same time you have to push yourself. At the end of your workout your muscles should feel somewhat sore. I also do about 30 minutes of cardio a day.
Your diet is also important. I get about 80 grams of protein a day (I'm 5'8'' 150 lbs). Protein is helpful in growing and repairing muscle.
I don't know what you have been doing in trying to increase your muscle mass. It does take time and hard work to get bigger muscles. You won't see results overnight and maybe you are doing the right things but you just haven't seen results yet. I know that my regiment has worked for me so far (I've been doing mine for 2 months). I hope I was of help and good luck.

Work out at least an hour a day. Alternate between hands and legs. Have a protein shake right after working out. Don't eat junk food. Don't eat fatty food.
By working out, I mean weights. No cardio.
