What are the favorite card/board games?

When it comes to board games my favorite one would have to be Monopoly. Ever since I was a child I loved playing Monopoly and as an adult I still love playing Monopoly

As for card games, my favorites would have to be Texas hold 'em, Uno, and my all time favorite during my time at both community college and university which is Cards Against Humanity. Even after graduating from university I still played this game. Haven't in a year but willing to play again.

These days, I'd say my favorite card game is one called Innovation. Despite being played with only cards (and only a hundred-some at that, with no other pieces), the strategy and moment-to-moment gameplay can get surprisingly tense. Unlike many other games, it plays well with two- I'd even argue that it's BEST with two. It's also QUICK; ten to twenty minutes will let you finish a game, once both players know the basics and have a decent familiarity with the cards.

For board games, I think I have to go with Tigris and Euphrates. This is an older one- 1996, long predating the renaissance of the mid 2010's- and loses out on the popularity it SHOULD have because of that. At the core, it's just a simple tile-laying game, and to a first-time player, luck seems like a huge factor, since you can't play tiles you can't draw. But the more you play, the more you realize that that's not actually true: points are only half the game; the heart of it is board position, and it's possible to position tiles to cause massive, kingdom-destroying wars that you're not even involved in, to leave them vulnerable for when you sweep in and clean up the rest. Some games are peaceful building competitions, some are massive, brutal wars, some are paranoia-inducing cold wars where every side builds itself up, too afraid to risk open conflict, until you sneak your agents into position and force his leaders out, taking control of the intact kingdom for yourself. Some are all of the above.

Obnoxiously, where there are MANY boardgaming sites out there, it rarely stays up on any of them for long- it doesn't have the recognition or the flashier fancy mechanics of something new. Board game arena finally added it- but gated behind a paywall, so you can only start games if you're a premium member. Since most people haven't heard of it, they'd only be likely to try if they could reliably join a game, and since you can't do that without paying, it's rare to actually find one up, and the few regular players there are so practiced that they'll easily obliterate a newbie, and few will stick around for drubbing after drubbing.

@GreatBigCircles Roll is fun, too. Have you played Race? It's one of those weird situations where Roll is generally smoother and more forgiving; the kind where you'd be inclined to learn it first- but it's really only easy to pick up if you already know Race.

I like Chinese checkers but I think my mother gave away my board games when my cousin moved to our area from China cause I have not seen any board games in our home after she came here. It's similar to the North American version of chess but there are maybe 3-5 rule changes and I like to play Chinese checkers with non Chinese people because I always win since I began playing at a very early age.

Also a fan of monopoly I don't understand people who don't like it. I have the 1997 star wars, a junior version which has a rectangular board rather than the normal, a weird avengers one that makes 0 sense and is awful with a circle shape, Empire. I want the Overwatch one but ain't gonna buy it lol.
I also have the 360 Xbox monoploy which is the best you can change a ton of rules and there is so many boards in that game then I have the Monoploy plus for xbox one which ain't as good but does the job.

Anyway aside from that, I love MTG used to like Yugioh but eh I still like it but not the modern way people play it, Resident Evil Deck Building Game which is the best I wish I had it but expensive played it tons at a local store that allows you to play what games they have, Splendor I have the normal version and Marvel both good.

Then there are other board games and etc that I wish I had but don't.

Cribbage is the best two player card game. My dad taught me how to play when I was young. Great game.

Favorite game in general is by far chess. Fairly simple rules but amazingly deep, complex, and creative gameplay. You could spend a whole lifetime playing and practicing and come across many positions that you've never seen before and will never see again.

Besides chess, Sushi Go! and Set are two card games that are a lot of fun that I haven't seen mentioned.

My favorite board game of all time? Axis and Allies.

But most of my family doesn't like to play that so for us as a family, we're evenly split on the game Masterpiece or The Game of Life.

As for cards, Uno, War, and Canasta.
